Quite personally, I do agree that American politicians are cashing in and taking advantage. I do believe that there is a good ideal behind the 4th of July, but it has been forgotten. I can't really have a decent opinion, me being an Englishman, but I have nowt more to say but:
Happy Over-Commercialized Event, America! For anyone to whom this holiday still holds meaning, then enjoy the anniversary of whupping our Limey butts!

Well, I find it somewhat silly that the Americans have a huge holiday over getting Independance from slaughtering British people, but hey, if that want to celebrate about, I might as well join in and get some free holiday stuff.
Happy 4th of July, all Americans! *gets chased out of town by Americans who think that the Canadian is mocking them*

Off-topic, I swear that Canada gets an Independance day as well? Also, to add a bit to my last post: I seriously don't know what America celebrates on 4th July. I understand the emancipation bit, but considering that America is now best-of-buddies with the UK (*cough* GB+TB 4 EVR), and also that they've been allies for over 100 years, it seems a little odd. Sorry if I have offended anyone with my strange rantings!
P.S. Where's Psypoke's 4th July banner? They had it last year, didn't they?

In other news, happy independence day! There's a storm right now, so no fireworks, but it's a fun day in any case.

I agree with Tesseract and Goldenquagshire. America is one of the worst places on earth. I don't mean to spoil your party so hapy 4th July.

Seeing as how everyone is tearing each other a new one for voicing opinions, I'll keep mine to myself, but I would like to wish our American members a happy 4th.

If you don't like America then don't post here!
I personally like it here.
this place is so nice, woods to paintball in, scout reservations to visit, further west there are mountains to climb, endless plains to ride across, we have the NFL, college football, we have the best military in the world, we have BYU, we have free press, We get cool fireworks displays every 365 days, we created the Cheeseburger ,
And most Importantly,
!!!WE HAVE NINTENDO EVENTS!!!

I know this kind of off-topic but you are only mentioning good things about America. It has it's downsides. I'm not saying that where i live is perfect.... i hate my country as well but we still have most of those things.
I don't want to offend anyone but i just don't like it. Sorry for going off-topic.

Happy belated 4th of July to all american Psypokians. I went to the dentist yesterday and Italy beat Germany 2 x 0, which makes me happy, because 90% of my family is italian. So, yeah, my 4th of July was quite good (even the dentist part: I've received the great news I'm removing my brace in very short time!), even though I'm not american. :3

Nothing particularly good happens on 4th of July here in 'merry olde England' except maybe a few chavs get arrested for wearing Burberry or a sneak preview of Doctor Who arrives.
Has everyone forgotten the true meaning of 4th July? It's like Christmas. It's about Jesus's supposed birth. I haven't, and I'm not even American. Apparently, it's when Americans became it's own country and started to form it's own economy and not be run by other countries.
Anyway, hope you all had a real good time and had lots of food and hope you're all working it off.
[I'm getting pretty chubby as I food and can't excercise much because of my broken toe.]
(Why don't we get Nintendo Events? )

I think it's funny how we celebrate our country by drinking beer, setting stuff on fire, and blowing a lot of stuff up.

I realize now that the festivities are over that my post might have no point, but it was a moderate 4th of July in Massachusetts. Half the cities cancelled the fireworks out of the budget, and there were illegal ones everywhere. We parked in a parking lot and I stood on the armrest so I could see out the sunroof. They were nice, but still could have been better. America has its ups and downs, pros and cons, etc. But really, it's not the country half the time, it's the leader or the <1% of the rich entrepeneurs (sp.) that cause the issue.
Jiggz, some people are under the impression that we are the only country that has trees.
Our national anthem was once an English drinking song. So yes, we celebrate by drinking.
