Okay, so I had this thought earlier: which one triumphs, logic or emotion?? in other words, which one do you follow more? for me, in most day-to-day happenings, i follow my logic; but if it's something i'm not sure about, or it's really important to me, i will go with what i feel in my heart is the right thing to do.

am i making sense?? anyways, please discuss.

Emotion. I'm sort of a comedian, so Emotion is important, but I'm also a scientist, so I use logic too. It's an odd mix.

i normally follow emotion. I try to listen to logic, but it's human nature to just go with instinct. or iow what your heart says to do. But overall I would say it depends on the situation. Say there's a person you like, and you want to ask them out. Normally you're heart says "DO IT." but then all these thoughts run through your head and you're thinking all the pros and cons, what the future will be, will it really work. And normally that ruins it, and you don't ask them out. People who go by emotion, I would say are people who live in the moment. People who win faced with a problem don't think to much but try to make it as cut and dry as possible. Rather than think about things, they just go with their instinct and do everything then and there, not thinking of the consequences.

yeah, that was the main thing i thought of. "if i really liked a girl, would i overthink it like usual, or just do it and not give a damn about the consequences?" sadly, i would probably wind up overthinking it, and not ask the girl out. hell, even when i ask girls just as a friendly escort to a dance or something, it usually turns really awkward. maybe for me, confidence gets in the way. with social matters (other than dating) i just use logic; what do i need to avoid doing/saying to not look like an idiot? and that's about it... with some stuff, like my family, however, i do whatever seems to be the best choice according to my instincts. life just gets more complicated as you get older, it seems....

I follow logic. If you are level headed and think things through clearly without listening to my gut. You get in far less trouble that way. If you are heading something you meet the goal faster and with far few casualties.

My only problem with this is that sometimes you can't always hold yourself back. Sometimes it's better to do what you're gut says, and accept the consequences. In my opinion, you have to live life before you can die. If you don't then you're not dying, you're just giving up.

I use logic and interpret it through emotion....people saying following emotion is dumb are forgetting that humans are the only creatures in existance that are capable of emotion, therefore there must be something good about it. that said, I hate people who follow emotion and totally deny logic, because emotion is in flux, logic is also in flux but much less so.

I would like to say that I use a healthy mix of logic and emotion, but I pretty much only follow logic. Emotion is more of a last resort.

Personally, I follow logic. I can be overemotional at times, but I always follow logic in decision making. This does lead to a certain carefulness on my part that can annoy those around me. Following logic is just as fun as following emotions anyway.

Emotions can sometimes be too unstable to completely rely on. To arrive at any clear solution, you also need a decent amount of logic to sort it out.

I often find myself evaluating my emotions as if I were a 3rd party, applying logical questions to this and that, and thus make my decisions based on multiple perspectives.

That's not to say there's not any gray area between logic and emotion. In fact, a lot of it is. I'll give an example: choosing a career. One could argue that, logically, the only career to choose is whichever is in demand and has the highest salary. But what if you hate that field? Logically, AND emotionally, you should choose something else, that you enjoy doing. Otherwise you'll spend your career miserably. In this way logic can support emotion, and the basis for the decision here is grayed.

Emotions can guide you to an extent, such as with trivialities in which logic won't yield higher return, or with those of such magnitude that unadulterated logic can have negative externalities BECAUSE OF your emotions. The sensible answer is that a balance needs to be applied. Throwing logic into the wind is dangerous and won't end well, while disregarding your emotions will also end negatively for you.

Emotions themselves can be logical, so pitting the two against each other is potentially misleading. As long as you're not crazy or a moron, you'll be alright.

You do have a point there, but wouldn't living life as an emotionless blob be depressing? I agree that a balance between logic and emotion is best. It makes it so you don't go around getting in trouble, but you still can enjoy life.

It seems the Logic vs. Emotion debate is beginning to be equated to Order vs. Chaos, when it shouldn't be quite like that.

Logic doesn't necessarily mean creating order, and emotion of course doesn't necessarily mean destroying it. It's entirely situational, so an attempted comparison isn't very relevant.

In addition, they don't need to be antagonistic of each other; often the logical decision is logical BECAUSE it is emotionally supportive or compliant.

I feel that emotion is a winner. When I make a decision based on what I feel, it usually is the better moral choice. Like, should you save yourself (logical) or save someone else (emotion)? My emotion is stronger than my logic, and others should be, but often, it isn't. That's my two cents, anyway.

I try to follow logic, but I often get caught in the moment and follow emotion.

I still stand by what I said, that although logic is good in obvious situations, whether you realize it or not, emotion really governs the things you do. You can't tell me you sit there and think about every little thing you do in life. Emotion also heavily determines the kind of person you are and will be. I truly believe that everything happens for a reason, but I also think that over thinking things will kind of guide you off of that trail. The most emotional points in life are what make you who you are. Logic is good, but real emotion defines who you are.

As I said, probably worded badly, I try to follow logic in some situations (Arguments, etc) to not aggravate someone so we can keep on being friends or so that we don't become enemies but end up making things worse by following emotion and saying something I shouldn't have. Conversely, in an equal amount of situations, emotion is what you should follow (who to hang out with, etc.). You shouldn't be someone's 'friend' for social or otherwise gain, you should be a friend because you like that person (not great examles, but whatever). Yes, emotion is who you are and without it you are a shell of a person, but logic is also equally important.

But if you were an emotionless blob I don't think that one would be able to be depressed.

ON TOPIC:
I actually don't know...
I would think that I use mainly logic in my choices.
