Right, I thought I should make this as i've seen many new people here posting things like:
Quote: 'its b cuz i wana do it'
I havent seen anybody say the specific line, but thats how the new people are talking, except some which have excellent grammar.
Proper line should be: It's because I want to do it. You can say wanna if you want, with two n's.
So, i'm going to write how to get smart with grammar, hopefully not with an essay of rubbish you wont read. Just points and tips.
Okay.
> Whatever letter starts a sentence off must be a capital. So not: 'you like my work? it took me ages..', it should be: 'You like my work? It took me ages.' Hopefully that makes sense.
> Now this point I have a thing for, not many members care but I do randomly. When saying, 'Did you know i can balance a book on my head?' The 'i' must be capital as it is alone. So, 'Did you know I can balance a book on my head?'
> A full stop ends a sentance. 'John went to the shops for 2 loaves of bread.'
> Right, to a couple or three words some people mix up.
There means somebody is over somewhere else or its looking to the past. You can use there like this:
'He's over there, by that randomly large tree.'
There was a big tree, it ate the dude up whole...
Their means its somebodies. Use it like this:
'It's their yellow shirt.'
Never use it like there or they're.
They're basically means 'They are'. Use it like this:
'They're going to see X-Men 3 when it comes out.'
'They're at the shops buying comic books.'
Hopefully that makes sense.
> More things people can get mixed up.
I'm = I am
I've = I have
I'ts = It is
> Minor things.
Don't = Do not
Doesn't = Does not
I know not many people get those wrong, but i've seen one or two people do it. If you think you cant get them right, use what they mean. Like I have, they are, does not.
> Spelling rule. I before E except after C. Figure it out yourself. ^_^
> Dont use more than 3 exclamation marks (!!!) at the end of a sentance. It makes the post seem retarded. Same goes for question marks (???). Oh and the same of full stops (...).
> Dont use more than one comma at the same time.
> There is a space after a comma.
'George likes cows, rabbits, monkeys and rats.'
> If you are making a list like the thing above 'cows, rabbits, monkeys and rats.' Then last two items on the list must be joined by 'and'. You can not say:
'George likes cows, rabbits, monkeys, rats.'
> A semi-colon (;) is basically a pause. Longer than a comma, shorter than a full stop. It also helps to link things up, but im not going into it as I may get it wrong. ^_^
> Don't use slang basically, it looks messy and bad.
> Nobody minds the casual abbreviations we all use.
Imo = In my opinion
Imho = In my honest/humble opinion
Lol = Laugh out loud
Rofl = Rolling on floor laughing.
Lmao = Laughing my ass off.
Roflmao = Rolling on floor laughing my ass off.
BBD has also reminded me of something.
> 'The cat's fur was orange and white.' - There must be a ' after cat and before the s. E.g: 's
But, if the word ends in an S, this happens:
'But dude, Chris' car is blue and black!'
- So, you shouldn't say. 'The cats fur is orange.' You say 'cats' if you are talking about a verb after, if you are talking something that belongs to them. You add a 's instead of just an s. Alas, you can say, 'The cats have brown fur.' Instead of, 'The cat's fur is brown.'
These are just tips on how to make your posts looks good. It isn't exactly rocket science. Just try a bit better.
Hope this all made sense anyway.

I used to reply in "slang" or "text talk" as it's called (When you text, you don't want to take up loads of messages)
And I look back on my posts and see disgusting, noobish posts by me...
I'm ashamed of my grammar...Great point bringing up. Most people will agree but not reply.
[It also bugs me on MSN when people speak like that, I can't tell a thing they say. People even try to abbreviate 'lol' to 'll' or 'cool' to 'kl'. Stupid phrases like 'gdgd' (Good Good) and 'u k' (Are you Okay?) annoy me too.]

Their means its somebodies.
"Their" means it's somebody's.
Also, I have a little bit to add:
-"It's" should never be used possesively; only use it to replace "it is." (Ex. "It's not fair when you do that.")
-"Its" is possesive; use it to say something like "The dog wagged its tail."
-"You're" should never be used possesively; only use it to replace "you are." (Ex. "You're making me mad.")
-"Your" is possesive; use it to say something like "I'm coming over to your house today."
-Also, don't put an apostrophe in every single word you're trying to make possesive.
Ex. "He has two cat's" should be "He has two cats"
-Only use an apostrophe like that if you're trying to make "cat" possesive.
Ex. "His cat's favorite time to annoy me is right now."
-Also, you can use "cat's" to say "cat is", but it's kind of awkward:
Ex. "His cat's orange."
-If you're trying to make a plural word possesive, (in this example, if you're talking about multiple cats) put the apostrophe after the word.
Ex. "His cats' favorite time to annoy me is right now."

'Bout time someone pointed this out. I was beginning to think I was in a forum for little kids - oh wait, I am.
I just want to throw in a few abbreviations that I've seen people not recognize. Most should be second nature to online frequenters, but there are new people who waste time asking what they mean (like myself ) These are accepted abbreviations - although admittedly most are reserved soley for speed typing on instant messaging programs
lol = laugh out loud
rofl = roll on floor laughing
lmao = laughing my a** off
brb = be right back
bbs = be back soon
bbl = be back later
wb = welcome back
afk = away from keyboard
(Two used on an Aussie chat that may or may not be heard of here)
gg = good game
bl = bad luck
Have a lovely day.
Mod edit: Leave out the inappropiate ones. kthx

Unless someone starts leet-speaking like this troubled person here ---> http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=36 I don't think there is reason for concern.
I find most of the bad spelling around here humorous actually.

I find this highly ironic that rubypoke posted a topic such as this. LOL GRAMER!
But he's right. I'm sick of all the numbskulled idiots clogging up the intarwebz with their pathetic grammar, and then making up excuses saying "BUT I R SPANIOSH" or some other BS. But that's just me; I'm a borderline "Grammar Nazi" so I get easily ticked off about this subject. Also, there is no "i" in pachymeter.

Good job here, maybe some people will learn something. :roll:
I do speak slang sometimes, but that's when I'm in laugh-mode. (A strange mode where I try to be funny)
Meh, at least some people here have decent grammar, mostly mods. But what I don't like is people speaking a load of jibberish nonsense that no one can understand. And I'm like "Huh? Are they saying good or food?"
And I am also surprised that it was rubypoke that made such a topic, it's not like him imo.
P.S. Behold my good grammar. (This sentence was for a lol)

This forum was beginning to distinctly remind me of world 1 or 2 on RuneScape. Peepel cahnt spel korektlee. ( )
I do believe there are sites that explain how to use 1337 speak. KOREKTLEE. I recommend for people with Windows who arent excactly spelling bee-winners is to go on Word, type your post in, and SC (Spell Check) it. Just an option, not a manuver to demean you to the big uh....typewriter in the sky.
I try to spell right, but I fail sometimes...Nobodys perfect, and thats an understatement for me

Damn. More English. I ALREADY HAVE A FRIGGIN' ENGLISH EXAM TODAY!!! Seriously though, good guide. I hate it when people post so you can hardly read it. In my school, people slang so much that it makes l33t look easy. It's nice to see other humans with a grasp of grammer here! BTW ( ), my friends regard "soz" as a slang for "sorry". Is it internet-recognized? If not, I have got a lot of my posts to edit.

GQ (lol Gentlemen's Quarterly), if you seem interested in correct grammar, I might also advise the study of English punctuation as well. I mean that as constructively as possible.
One thing that really irks me is the use of internet slang or shortened use of words such as "plox" for "please." Abbreviations don't bother me a bit though. I wish people would talk online, or even speak in public, in more intelligent and consturctive manners. One thing that bothers me about forums is they will not put more than one space between sentences. The correct space required between sentences is two spaces. Or, as I was taught in middle/grammar school, it would be or omitted to about the width of your index finger (which is just as subjective as 2/3's of a medium head of bok choy in a recipe).
PS Remember when "BRB" use to mean "bathroom break?" Probably not.

Calculon... That thing is funny, I typed in:
I'm l33t and very, very 00ber.
And it came up:
IMM L33T AND VARY VERY OOBER.
Or something like that. (And I am afraid.)
And when is the 'article' of "Grammar for Dummies, Part 2" being 'published'? I'd like to see it... For some reason.
P.S. Lol, I'm 12 and I don't type like that...

Right, except next time you go grammar police, it just might be a good idea to check your own grammar.
Capitalizing your "I"s is a very important part of grammar.

Well do you know what annoys me?People who type like this.Because they are too lazy to put in spaces after commas,full stops,and question marks.Especially when they post lengthy replies.It makes it so hard to read.

Saanaito, that's kinda mean. People make spelling mistakes you know. It's just a little ironic, how the mistakes in the reply are grammar mistakes to explain how to avoid grammar mistakes.
Anyway, good job rubypoke, Psypoke really needs this more than a lot of things right now.

I know of another abbreviation that is like IMO but with an added letter.
I know people say it and other stuff but what does it mean?
PS I am a grammar / spelling freak too(NOT "to" or "tu" or "2")
