An URL would be nice.

A URL would be nice, but it was stolen from us. As soon as it expired, it was taken by one of those mass-registering things, and now takes you to a page that does a "search" for you. Nothing more than pr0n and spyware, so I'd HIGHLY suggest not going there. We would have bought the domain ourselves, but we didn't have money or a reliable server.

Granted, the current "owners" of Psypoke.com are more than willing to sell it to us.. so they can take the money and do the same to someone else's domain. We'll have to see what happens for now. </History Lesson>

Um, actually, I believe Abra K. still owns the domain name. We were looking into grabbing it when it expired last year, but he reregistered it.

I used to be quite ignorant about movesets and the related strategies before I came upon this site, so thank you Psypoke.

Back to what Frost was saying, who is Abra K.? So is it still possible to get back the URL?

A little lesson in PsyPoke history (from the only person who's been around that long):

Abra K. was the original webmaster of PsyPoke; he started the site in 1999. About a year to a year and a half later, he passed webmaster duties of the site along to Deadeyedave, Nova, Kirbster and darkmind, but he still held registration over the Psypoke.com domain. That site pretty much disappeared sometime in 2001 and there basically was no PsyPoke for over a year, until the current E4 brought the site back on the former IRC server aXpi's webspace and then eventually Gamespy. TK's kept an eye on the registration for PsyPoke.com and when the registration expired sometime last year, I believe that Abra K. renewed the ownership for whatever reason. So as far as I know, the domain still belongs to him until registration expires again.

As you can see, all the domain names we've had are now in the hands of other people who decide that advertising is cool and that Psypoke somehow relates to Poker.

Yeah, we aren't the original E4. I eventually want to write up the Site's History and post it on the "About Us" page. If any of the veterans want to fill me in on what happened before I joined Psypoke, they are most welcome to do so.

True, except for Darkmind, the rest of the E4 is not the original E4. As for site history, anything before around fall of 2000, I wouldn't be much help. It seems like Frost has been here longer than anyone else though.

Also, I joined right about the time that Abra K. was leaving. As far as I know, he ran the site pretty much by himself before he appointed the original E4.

Yeah, I remember the old days. I've been around since before the Coolboard, I can't remember what kind of forum it was but it seems like it had a U in the name of it...at any rate, I thought I'd heard that Abra K was a drug dealer who was running from the police and presumed dead. Or was that just a rumor? If it was true, then I don't see how he could be the one who registered that domain name, heh.

WTF when did that happend, I thought the domain was taken by tucow's last year, I should know I was trying to buy it. I was keeping such a close eye, that i was banned from Verisigns Servers (quick email and that was fixed) then like over night went from Abra K. to tucows (not directly but a sub, sub, sub branch) and when I emailed tucows i got a simple email say something like "We think we'll be keeping it" no joke it was like 1 or 2 lines long.

Sorry for the slight rant. I'll probably take the rest of my rant in EGC or PM's im slightly steamed. BTW looks like "Psypokes.com" is up for grabs.

would you really want to type all of that out? I know you could bookmark it, but what if your trying to access it from a cpmputer that isnt yours?

we dont have Psypoke.com so we cant have Dynamic3.Psypoke.com because thats a subdomain of psypoke.com.

I think It's better than http://www.dynamic3.gamespy.com/~psypoke, and sometimes I even forget the ~ .

The ~ has been commonplace in URLs for years. It just means it's an account set up under the domain, not a subdirectory of the main page. If it was /psypoke/, that would imply that we're a subdirectory of gamespy, like /pictures/ or something similar. The ~ signifies we're an independent account.
