NOTE: topic has high potential to be Locked, please be thoughtful when posting and don't mess it up
Unless locked or deleted, which could happen at any second, this is an educated discussion about....
Telling new members how to raise your post count, and change your rank.
I brought this topic up because I see a trend happening, however it's so slight it's there, and could turn out to be a major issue. I see many newbies asking how to change your rank, and Users doing the polite thing post what's in the forum FAQ. However after awhile these newbies start Spamming their way to the top, and it would be wrong to say "It's completely unintentional...." because no matter how many times they are warned they still post Spam.
The thing I would like to propose is not giving any information on rank changes. Meaning, removing the fact that posting raises your rank. If this happens and no User leaks information, we may see Spam go down. I think it is something that should definitely be tried out.
Also, possibly the numbers of posts for the rank change could be altered every once and awhile? This proposition here though will most likely be turned down.
So many newbies care too much about their rank and post count, to the point where they feel they need to post at every topic, and post the dumbest things. I'm sure you Moderators are pulling your hair out.
I think that if we eliminate post count and rank changing information, we may see a slight fall in SPAM.
I also can back myself up completely with a recent experience.
Spammer wrote: How do I change my rank?
User wrote: You have to get a bunch of posts and after awhile your rank changes.
Here this person also listed the different figures.
Spammer wrote: Cool, so I only have 50 posts to go until I reach ------?
User wrote: Yup. You have to be careful though not to post junk otherwise they will know about you trying to raise your rank.
Next day.
Spammer wrote: I got ------- how many more until --------?
User answered.
I was here for this whole conversation, and will not point fingers unless an Admin or Moderator requests.
Prime examples of how the information about post count and rank changing affects Spam here.
So I'd like to see what others think about this issue.

This is nice and all, but what I don't understand is why people are so involved in getting a higher rank. You are a valued member by what you post, not by how much you post. I've seen members who joined for only three days and have a higher post count than me and dare to say "I don't post spam!" Well, infact, you are. You're posting everywhere you see fit. Remember, a forum is not a life. You are allowed to go outside, get some excercise, go to a movie, etc... The computer and forum will still be here when you get back.
Do not worry about having the highest rank or a high rank, just be a good member. We need more of them these days instead of constant "yae loll i did tat 2!11one but how do u do it agin?? lolll1" posts.
And for everyone else who have the tendency to not read the bolded print, here it is again: please be thoughtful when posting and don't mess it up
Thank you.

I agree with everything you posted there Antigua, the whole concept of newbies thinking high post count gives them respect is ridiculous. My friends accuse me of Spam, I am able to admit I spammed twice as a newbie, and both were Necromancy. Personally, I think jealousy is a part. I find it a privledge to talk to people around the world, regardless of rank.

boohoo forum ranks
i didn't give it much thought when posting. look at my membership date. way back right? possibly older than whoever's reading this right? with less posts?
i post mainly cuz i wanna know something i don't, i wanna help other ppl find out things they dont know, share opinions, or for fun like in the activites section. post rank is just a nice shiny piece of tinfoil that all the baby magpies chase after for no real good reason. the little poke balls do look scintillating wouldn't you agree? so i guess my point is that people who are preoccupied with raising a silly rank should get their priorities straightened out and realize that the hard work they put in to spam a message board won't get them a) a job, b) a life, c) a gf, or d) a nice porsche convertible.

It's nice to see someone taking a firm stand against spammers. I actually have a story for y'all, it's about spamming.
Long ago (actually, not that long), when I was new to this site, I liked the many different forums to post in. Soon, I began to post in almost all of them. It first started off with many good, informative posts from me. It soon started to get to the point where I was just clicking on any topic, and then posting something like "Oh yeah, that's blah blah blah blah etc..." Well, I started to get so sick of that style of posting that I just took a week off from Psypoke.
That week off did me good. I got in a little exercise, played some video games other than Pokemon, watched some TV, and didn't glue myself to the internet. I came back and started posting some really good posts.
That's the story of how I went from a newbie to a :x noob :x to a valued member.
Hey, new members, just because you're a newbie doesn't mean you have to be a noob. Just look at many of the newcomers in the Roleplaying Forum. They post really good posts, and most of them are only near their 50th post.

its a good idea and you should lose posts for spamming and other things like that or the posts should not count.

A little more input would be nice, however it requires a MOD to edit post count, in which we don't have.

aww can't we all just get along?
first off i don't think that this should be a topic where you pick out people you've had conflict with and flame them as "n00bish" or whatnot.
some people are just more immature than others, and they'll grow up with time and experience.

EDIT: I just found some very nice replies form Confused Flareon, who obvisously doesn't know the meaning of respect, check these out.
Confused n00b wrote: Hello, Small Child. While i may not be a buddy, i am an expert Glitch Myth Buster. I have successfully stomped the crap out of every pathetic myth that has come up, and i will be only too glad to show it to you.
There are no glitches on any of the Advanced games, you moronic child. Have you surely not played the games and tried them? Are you only attempting to make yourself seem cool by knowing these things? Your "coolness rating" will go down faster than a Black Pokeblock if you believe such nonsense. Kindly obtain a life
Confused n00b wrote: You aren't secretly the child are you, Truestar? I'm telling you, those cheats just don't work. Your game says that the game file is corrupt and then takes you back to the Pokemon Centre, to the time before you began the trade. All Pokemon are still with their Original Trainers
Wonderful right? Here is a PERFECT example of n00bs having no respect and thinking they are on top of the world. And to get this on topic I can relate this because respect is an issue with n00bs and post count.
Hurr look at my postcount hurr
What Hypocrisy.

Eswin, I believe you misunderstood. It's really confusing when in depth but everything ties in together one way or another. Besides I edited that out now, hopefully a Moderator I Pmed will take care of it.

You know I have never been a spam-just-to-get-post-count kind of person, and even if I was a long time ago it got erased from me in time. Because I used to be a member of a major Neopets forum a few years back, but I dropped out because they relocated and I didn't know the new site. It really felt great to be back on "forum" business because I found out that all the forum ettiquette I picked up (I got warned at least 3 times) wouldn't go to waste after all! So I'm glad for all of us really.
For one thing, I used to be really jealous of people who had high post count. I mean REALLY high, higher than even Dragonfan has now. Then after getting warned a few times I told myself that all those guys with awe-inspiring post count once felt exactly the same way as I did. So once I came to this forum I didn't act at all like the "current" newbies do, if anyone noticed. In fact from my very first post I was useful, at least I hope I was. I didn't even notice the "Introduce Yourself" thread until I was about 90 or so posts in!
tessa7338 wrote: Well, u have to trade to Ruby/Sapphire to get or since FRLG does not have a game clock. Or to get it directly u can ask someone who plays colosseum. Espeon + Umbreon are their 2 starters.
Yup, that was my first post, and I'm proud of it, even though the topic has long been locked. I shan't bore you with my history, but you can look at my profile to see whatever I posted since I arrived. I'm proud to say that not one of them is useless, and the usefulness is not just "it gets me post count" kind of usefulness. It actually has content.
So, yeah, not to brag, but I'm proud to be a good Psypokian.

Curious to why people refers to others as "newbies" or "noobs" since those words aren't even in the dictionary...
I agree that eliminating post count would substantially reduce spamming, however I doubt that it would come to a complete halt. You see, in today's society, most people don't care about what they do (to themselves or others, unfortunately). The way to deal with this problem is to prevent them from using this site - in short, a ban. Ten warnings, fifteen warnings, there shouldn't be a minimum amount - one warning is sufficient. If the user can't respect the fact that we're trying to run an organized and fun forum site for all to enjoy, then so be it - he/she should suffer the consequences!
One word is sufficient to describe it - lazy. We have links stating how to increase post count and the various ranks there are associated with it - but do others bother reading them before deciding to post a completely useless "How Do I Change My Rank" topic? No.
Typical, isn't it?

On the contrair, people do make mistakes. However, it is not accepted for when these mistakes become redundant, and this is the true purpose of the thread.
Speaking of consequences and being lazy... Cough.

Hmm...a good point you made here, and sure, changing ranks and deleting posts is a vexing way to change people's stubborness to persist. Less spam looks more organized and leaves room, and then again there's always those chats to talk about what you want to, but some of us can't upload those chats (Security Blocks it). And some of us are quite talkative. I post a lot on different topics because 1. I know what I'm talking about and 2. I find a lot of stuff interesting. I noticed that when I first joined this site, I didn't know much about these rules, and so I did a few mistakes like unfrequent necromancy, but after a while I learned not to do those things. But Some people learn slower Then I. And, you also have the age. I know people on this site aren't 4 and 5, but there are some that are low on their years and don't realize how irritating "I dId ThAt TOOOOooo!!!!!1111" is.
Your idea on changing Ranks and decreasing posts is a good one, but we have to show some mercy to the people who are new or "slower".
