Seeing as the discussion popped up in the "Introduce Yourself" Section, so I decided to carry this on. What languages do you speak? I'm Indian, though I've lived in England for 4 years now. So I can speak:
English
Hindi(Can just barely write Hindi)
Spanish
A bit of French
Also, what languages would you like to speak? I'd really like to speak Chinese, seeing as so many people here speak chinese.

Potuguese (mother tongue), Brazilian (more or less the same as portuguese), English, Spanish, Italian, French and a little bit of Japanese. Not a big deal though, since most of these came from latin and they're all somewhat similar.

Kryten: American isn't a language.
I can't speak anything other than English. But I do know alittle bit of Japanese. When I go to college, I'd like to learn Japanese and German.

I can speak English, & pretty good German.
I'd also like to teach myself Japanese because it would look really good on my UCAS form when applying for a University.

You know what annoys me? When people think American is a language. But Krisp already touched on that.
I can speak choppy Spanish and speak fluent English. I'd like to learn German, French, Italian, Latin, and possibly some Chinese. Chinese seems really complicated. Of course, all new languages seem complicated.
I should have really started learning Latin before I started Middle School. Therefore Spanish would be easier to understand. But I do plan on speaking fluent German, Italian, Spanish and Latin.
I hae how Latin was "abandoned". Sure it's still used, but not as much. Latin as many know is the root of most European languages. Thus if you can learn Latin, it is much easier to leanr the languages of Europe.
I also hate how I can't take both languages in school. I would have taken both Spanish and French is given the chance.
And because Italian and Spanish are so similar, I plan on learning Spanish all through school.
I love language. In my opinion, knowing several languages is one of the coolest things on earth. Obviously you can't learn all the languages. It's physically possible yes, but what about quality of your speaking? What about the time it would take? I just don't see it happening.
I do encourage those who are taking languages though, I also would suggest you don't quit. I remember reading posts: I'll quit German after this year.
Take your oppurtunity. Grasp it, not many people have the option of learning languages like that.
If anybody knows any good language sites, where I can learnt the languages above, please let me know. (Make sure they are good.) I'll be disppointed if I'm pointed to a site that offers nothing. I'm looking at the words, and pronunciation.
I've said enough. But I would like to discuss language further. Keep posting!

Today I was asked "to stop speaking Mexican" by my teacher. Honestly, some people... the one thing really ticks me off is calling the language Mexican.

In my opinon, I would have corrected her. Sure it's defiance, but we need to respect other cultures. Naming something out of assumption in such a way she did to me is considered disrespectful. Of course, she may not have known...
what were you speaking?

Chinese.
Spanish, of course. Since Mexico speaks it, people call it "Mexican." Nope. I mean, there are differences between Spain Spanish and Mexico Spanish, but it's only certain words (i.e. instead of "computadora," they say "ordenador"); the structure is identical.
I did correct her.

I can speak Mandarin (i.e. Chinese, but you don't speak Chinese ) and English, of course. There are some dialects I can speak as well, but they don't really count as languages.
What I would like to learn in the future is Japanese. It's a leet language IMO

Funny, I always grew up thinking you did. Thanks sN0w for the correction.
Darned American stupidity and ignorance....

I can speak English, obviously. I also know Latin. I know a few useful phrases in several languages, and the basic necessities in a few more beyond that (ie. "food," "toilet," "bed," "where is _").
I intend to learn at least the basics of Japanese (hopefully in college) so that I can travel to Japan one day, and not be one of those arrogant American tourists that refuses to make an attempt to learn about the culture before travelling. It would also prove useful in game design to know a bit of Japanese anyway, since they're so far ahead of us to begin with.

Reminds me of the movie "A Day Without Mexicans":
A Day Without Mexicans wrote: "They're illegal Mexican immigrants from Guatemala and Belize!"
It was said this way in purpose of course, but I don't doubt there are people who think that. From where else would they've taken the idea?
And if you don't know what's wrong in that sentence, you deserve to be shot.
Anyway, back on topic, I know Spanish (duh), English (more duh), and a little bit of French. Oh, and a little bit of Latin too. I would sort of understand Portuguese if I read it, since it's similar to Spanish, but I don't officially "know" it. And I'd like to speak... err... Well, at least finish learning French.
