Well to start, it's ok, and by scratch, with out any help, it's cuite good, but with that aside, you need to work harder on the pose and colouring/shading, I'll recon that when you come up with a good pose, first sketch it a little bit, then grab a sprite you want to recreate for the colors, or maybe create a little colour scheme, then start creating the major outlining, followed by coloring what's inside.
Paint is not bad though, it's just basic.
