A oneshot for a contest I did on Serebii. This is my first Pokemon fic, so I hope its okay. I rated it K-10 for minor language (I don't think 'bugger' is very offensive, but some might.)
Enjoy
Kyogre opened her yellow eyes and awoke to be greeted by several humans, a Red Orb and a submarine. Kyogre was a massive blue whale-like creature with a long, trailing tail; thick, wing-like fins and a white underbelly. On her wings he sported red designs made up of circles and lines, as well as white appendages on the end that looked like fingers.
She had been resting in an underwater cave that was only reachable by special equipment or Pokémon that could dive. She thought it was a good place to hide. It looked like she’d thought wrong.
“Kyogre! Baby! You’re awake!” The human who greeted him wore a blue bandana and a black jacket that exposed his chest. He had a goatee that he probably thought made him look tough, but in reality it just made him look scruffy. Some of the other humans with him wore a blue uniform that made them look like modernised pirates. They also looked kind of silly.
Kyogre looked at the man, less than impressed.
“Who dares wake the Great Kyogre?” she roared, “foolish humans! You can’t possibly understand the extent of your actions!”
Although this sounded like an imposing roll of thunder to the humans, other Pokémon would have heard a voice that sounded quite simpering and high-pitched, like it was ready to rise to a horrible scream at any moment.
“Aww,” the man cooed, “Kyogre’s pleased to see me! Who’s a nice whale, then?”
The boy stood next to him shook his head despairingly. He wore a strange white hat that looked like his hair, a green bag and for some reason, two pairs of trousers.
“You’re an even bigger idiot than I thought, Archie.” He said.
“I know,” the man said with a grin, “but don’t you just love it when a plan comes together?”
Archie laughed and held the Red Orb up, grinning slightly maniacally.
“Look Kyogre! The Red Orb! That means you’re mine now!” he shouted.
“Fool! I obey no one and especially not someone with such awful facial hair!” the blue Pokémon screamed, “now I shall bid you farewell!”
Kyogre spread her wings wide and took to the skies, flying high out of cave.
“Wait! Come back, Kyogre! Don’t you like me?” Archie cried after her, holding the Red Orb.
“Don’t you know anything? It’s gone off to beat the snot out of Groudon, stupid!” the boy beside him yelled, “Honestly, for an adult, you sure don’t know what you’re dealing with.”
“How the heck did you know that?” Archie asked, bemused.
“Didn’t they teach you anything at Pokémon School?”
With that, Archie pulled a walkie-talkie out his pocket and called in for more back up to locate the whale.
On the other side of Hoenn lay a similar cave. However, unlike Kyogre’s, this one was underneath a volcano and therefore scorching hot and filled with a great pool of lava. Within the pool, a strange red formation just broke the surface and gave the impression of organic stepping-stones.
In front of the pool stood a group of several people- one of them was tall with slicked back red hair. He wore a red and black jacket and looked very distinguished but currently rather irritated. He held out a Blue Orb in one of his hands.
Hanging off his arm was a girl wearing a green bandana, a red dress-shirt and a ridiculous fringe-only hairstyle. She was attempting to stop the man by hanging on to his arm, but it didn’t look like it was very successful.
“No!” she screamed, “I won’t let you, Maxie! You can’t do this to Hoenn!”
“Little girl, will you get off?” the man asked in a tone that indicated he was losing patience. Finally he shook her off and she fell to the floor where she was grabbed and held back by some people that looked suspiciously like his minions. They were dressed in a strange, hooded red uniform that made them look like members of some sort of ridiculous cult.
“Thank goodness. You could have done that earlier,” Maxie said, rolling his eyes, “I don’t know what I pay you people for. Anyway! Now is the time! Arise, Groudon!”
Maxie held the Blue Orb high up and it shone with a strange aura. From where he was slumbering, Groudon awoke and rose up out of the lava. He slowly opened his own yellow eyes, yawned hugely and stretched, clearly taking his time with waking up.
Groudon was a very different creature to Kyogre. His form was deep red, reptilian in shape and could best be described as bulky. He was covered in a thick, segmented, armoured hide and his rather fat middle was grey. He had white claws, spikes protruding out his sides and a thick, four-pronged tail with a similar formation on his head. On his arms were designs not too dissimilar to Kyogre’s.
“Oh, time to wake up already?” He asked in a booming voice. Humans would have heard it as just a great roar, but to Pokémon, it was a huge voice, brimming with heartiness and personality.
“Groudon! Yes! Now is finally time to put my plan into action!” Maxie shouted, his eyes twinkling with slight insanity.
“Groudon looked down at the man holding the orb then laughed- a big, deafening, jolly laugh that made the cavern shake. Everyone around looked frightened when this happened.
“You think a little trinket like that will control me? That’s cute! Nice try, though, but no cigar,” Groudon rumbled, with a cheery smile.
“Oh no! He’s going to eat us!” the girl yelled.
“Well, I am a little peckish now you mention it…” Groudon mused to himself. Given his voice, however, this was still echoed and boomed across the cave. He suddenly looked like he’d remembered something important, “wait. If I’ve been awoken, that means… oh bugger.”
Groudon sighed and rolled his eyes, then clambered out of the lava, grumbling to himself things like ‘stupid whale’ and ‘I’m sure we could settle this like civilised Pokémon..’
The humans watched the red Pokémon drag his massive bulk off in fear and surprise. They stood in silence for a moment. Maxie was first to speak.
“Where the hell does he think he’s going!?” he yelled, “The Blue Orb didn’t help at all!”
“Told you it was a stupid idea,” the girl said in a know-it-all sort of way.
Maxie ignored her and started giving orders to track down their legendary.
A short while later, Kyogre and Groudon had found each other- within the volcanic basin city of Sootopolis. The combined effect of them together had caused some freaky weather. It rained, but there were solar flares and thunderstorms, too. It was both scorching hot and freezing cold, which was really weird.
In the middle of the basin were the two of them- Kyogre was surrounded by massive, rippling waves and Groudon was stood upon a large rock that looked like it had only just risen out of the sea.
“You!” Kyogre screamed at the other Pokémon, “it is time to finish this once and for all, Groudon!”
“I know. Do we have to?” Groudon sighed and looked uncharacteristically sulky for a second. He even sighed loudly. “I don’t feel like it today. Some silly humans woke me up and I was having a great dream, too.”
“Don’t be stupid!” Kyogre yelled, “This is our destiny! This is what we were made to do!”
Groudon sighed. There was no arguing with Kyogre- once she had an idea in her mind, it was no good trying to get her to forget it. She was just that stubborn.
“Oh… very well. Just this once,” he laughed deafeningly and started to gather light to charge an attack, “for old time’s sake, I suppose.”
With that, Kyogre leapt up out of the water and slammed into Groudon.
Meanwhile, somewhere far above Hoenn, in the upper areas of the atmosphere, two Pokémon flew higher and higher.
One of them, a tiny pink feline-like creature with a long tail and sparkling blue eyes turned to the other.
“Isn’t he supposed to be around here, mew?” She asked in a cute, child-like voice.
The other was much bigger- his white body was covered in fine feathers that shone silver when they caught the light. He had a long, form with a long tail and neck and its wings resembled thick arms. He had a purple underbelly and indigo prongs along its back and again on his head and tail. He turned to his tiny companion.
“He should be, Mew. He’s usually around here, right?”
“I don’t know, mew. The ozone layer is pretty big, Lugia. Rayquaza could be anywhere. It took me long enough to find you in the sea, mew!” She chirped.
“Then we’ll have to keep looking. He has an important job to do,” Lugia replied. He had an air about of being endlessly patient.
“I know if some thing was happening with my charges, I’d be there in a flash.”
“Oh, you’re so responsible, mew! I wouldn’t be able to do something like that,” the pink Pokémon giggled and turned a somersault, as cutely as possible.
Lugia sighed and carried on searching.
From somewhere up ahead, another Pokémon approached them through the clouds.
He had a slim, lilac form and bore a slight resemblance to Mew. His eyes were a deep reddish-purple and he had neat, horn like ears on the top of his head. His chest and shoulders were slightly armoured. On his hand and feet he had but three fingers and toes.
His stomach and long tail were a deep violet colour. He smiled slightly when he saw them.
“Mew. Lugia. I was looking for you,” he said, with a deep, almost seductive voice.
“You were, mew? What for, Mewtwo?” Mew asked.
“I heard you were looking for Rayquaza. That old dog Deoxys told me. Is it true?”
“It sure is.” Lugia replied, watching the purple Pokémon carefully.
“Oh. Well, don’t. You can’t begin to imagine how amusing their fight is. It’s the best entertainment I’ve had in a while. Much better than staring at that dull old moon,” Mewtwo laughed, a slightly cruel twinkle in his eyes, one that Mew was used to seeing.
Mew shook her head and giggled a little before looking serious again.
“But it’s for the good of the world!” she cried, “You want to see it get destroyed, mew?”
Mewtwo pondered this for a moment. For a Pokémon as intelligent as he, he tended to forget details. Like why destroying the world you live on is a bad idea.
“Oh. I hadn’t thought of that,” he said, defeated, “where would we live without it?”
“Then help us look for Rayquaza.” Lugia suggested.
“Um. Yes, right.” Mewtwo said, and he disappeared off into the clouds.
Lugia shook his head as he watched Mewtwo leave.
“Good grief. He’s just like a teenager- full of attitude.”
“Well, I guess he technically is, mew,” Mew replied and the two of them followed him.
Back down in Sootopolis, Groudon and Kyogre were still fighting, unaware of the other legendaries’ search for their keeper.
“I could keep this up all day!” Kyogre cried as she sent an enormous wave in Groudon’s direction. Groudon crouched behind his rock to keep the water off him.
“Great!” He replied, “Just let me know when you’re done with this tidal wave.”
“Stop defending and attack me like a man!” she screamed at him, “C’mon! It’s time to finish this once and for all!”
Groudon thought about this and considered his next move carefully.
“You’re right. It is.”
And with that, he leapt at Kyogre.
Sometime later, Mew, Mewtwo and Lugia found Rayquaza. He was taking a nap on top of the Sky Pillar- a tall structure built out in the middle of the ocean.
“There he is, mew!” Mew called, spotting him first.
“Fabulous! Good job, Mew.” Lugia replied.
“I saw him first,” Mewtwo said, as if he was slightly bored.
“Do be quiet..” Lugia requested and the three of them came into land on the roof of the building.
Rayquaza was coiled up asleep on the top of the pillar. He was slender, green and serpentine in build. Like Groudon and Kyogre, he had brilliant yellow eyes. His mouth and teeth were red, although it made him look more like he had lipstick on.
Along his body, he had pointed fins that made him resemble a sort of organic missile and protruding from his head were four long horns. He had short, clawed arms that didn’t look like they would be very useful and along his body were yellow designs that looked like those of his charges’.
Rayquaza didn’t wake up as the other three Pokemon approached. He looked quite peaceful, curled up and blissfully unawake that he was needed.
“Hey! Rayquaza!” Mewtwo called to him, “Wake up!”
Rayquaza opened his eyes a little but didn’t move.
“Please! We need you!” Lugia said, slightly pleadingly.
Rayquaza opened his eyes fully and rose up from where he was napping. He yawned a little.
“Who dares awaken Ray-“
“Oh stop that. Your two favourite Pokemon are causing trouble,” Mewtwo interrupted.
“Hey guys,” Rayquaza said, slightly sheepishly, as he’d attempted a big imposing speech like Kyogre’s. Then he added-
“Do you mean who I think you mean?”
“Kyogre and Groudon?” Mew replied, “Sure do. They’re in Sootopolis. Can you go sort them out, mew?”
Rayquaza nodded and wordlessly, he took to the skies.
Mew, Lugia and Mewtwo watched him take off in silence for a moment before Mewtwo spoke.
“Let’s go watch. I want to see how this one ends!”
And with that, he flew off after the green sky-serpent, shortly followed by his companions.
Quite some time later, Rayquaza arrived in Sootopolis, shortly followed by the three who had woken him up. When they got there, there was no sign of either Groudon or Kyogre, except for a strange little island in the middle of the caldera and some rather spooked humans.
The weather had returned to normal and was very warm and pleasant.
“Strange.. where are they?” Rayquaza asked.
“There’s an island that looks like Groudon’s doing,” Lugia commented, “but no Groudon.”
“Damn, we missed it?” Mewtwo asked, “Pity. I wanted to watch.” With that, he turned on his heel and flew off, shortly followed by Mew.
Rayquaza looked quite troubled by the disappearance of the two he was responsible for.
“Could something else have calmed them? Some outside force or even a human?” He asked.
“Who knows?” Lugia said, looking like he was thinking about it too.
Just then, there was a great squawking and a flurry of wings and Lugia’s own charges appeared.
One was a brilliant blue with a crest on her head and a pale chest. Her eyes were red and she had a very long, elegant tail. She exuded an cool air of grace and beauty.
The second was quite small and golden yellow and black. His feathers seemed to be a mass of untamed spikes that crackled with static as he flew. He seemed to be permanently angry.
The third was yellow like his brother, but his wings, tail and the crest on his head were made up of dazzling orange and red flames. He looked like a large fiery chicken with a slightly clumsy demeanour.
Lugia looked surprised to see them
“Articuno! Zapdos! Moltres!” he cried, “What are you doing here?”
“We heard that two of Hoenn’s titans were battling it out,” Articuno cooed.
“The beasts of Johto came and told us. So we came to check it out,” Moltres offered.
“But they were leaving as we arrived! And we flew all this way! And for what? Nothing!” Zapdos cried. He seemed quite angry, but for him, this was moderately calm.
“Did you see where Groudon and Kyogre went?” Rayquaza asked hopefully.
The three birds went strangely quiet and looked at each other before speaking again.
“Well…”started Articuno.
“We saw where Groudon went, but as for Kyogre…” Moltres offered
“You’d have to ask Groudon that.” Zapdos finished.
“But where did they go?” Rayquaza pleaded.
“We saw Groudon head west,” Articuno replied.
“We don’t know Hoenn well enough to tell you where he is exactly,” Zapdos stated flatly.
“We hope that helps!” Moltres ended, slightly sheepishly.
Rayquaza looked over in the direction the three birds had given him.
“I’ll go check it out,” he said.
“And we’ll be heading off back home. I hope you can resolve everything, Rayquaza,” Lugia said kindly.
“Yes… um.. thank you, everyone.” Rayquaza said thoughtfully and the five of them parted ways.
It didn’t take long for Rayquaza to find Groudon. It’s not hard to find something that’s over ten foot tall and weighs over two tonnes, especially when they’re lounging on Slateport Beach in the sunshine and mysteriously wearing a pair of sunglasses.
Rayquaza landed quietly beside him. The red lizard was much bigger and fatter than he remembered.
“Hello Groudon,” he said calmly.
Groudon sat up and lifted up his sunglasses.
“Rayquaza!” He boomed cheerfully, “Good to see you, old chap! I wondered if you would show up!” And he pulled the green serpent into a tight bear hug.
“Yes.. um.. you can let go now…” Rayquaza said, trying to squirm out of Groudon’s crushing embrace.
“Oops! Sorry, sorry!” Groudon said, letting go of Rayquaza and smiling widely, “no concept of personal space, you know how it is. So! What brings you here?”
“Isn’t it obvious? You and Kyogre..”
Groudon waved a massive paw dismissively.
“Oh that. Minor scuffle. It’s done with. You’re looking at the victor,” he said, grinning.
“Minor…? You’re…what?!” Rayquaza asked disbelievingly.
“Come on, Ray. You knew one of us would win one day. Well, it was I. You can call me ‘King Groudon, Lord of the Land’ if you like. Has a ring to it, don’t you think?” Groudon said proudly.
“Groudon, does upsetting the balance of nature mean nothing to you?” Rayquaza questioned accusingly. If he had hips, he would have put his hands on them.
Groudon waved his paw dismissively again.
“Don’t be stupid, old chap. You’ve been listening to the legends. Has the world crumbled yet? No. Have I made it unbearably hot and dry yet? No. Everything’s fine, Ray!”
“So you’re not going to bring heat waves and droughts?”
“I could if I wanted,” Groudon replied.
“Do you want to?” Rayquaza asked carefully.
“Nah. Too much effort, old chap.”
“Oh,” Rayquaza looked relieved and slightly defeated, “so… um… what actually happened to Kyogre?”
“That silly old fish? Drowned her.” It was unnerving how casual Groudon was about this.
“But she’s a whale! You can’t drown a whale!” Rayquaza cried, not quite believing his ears.
“You can drown anything that breathes. Trust me.”
“Dare I ask how?” Rayquaza seemed morbidly curious.
“I was hoping you would ask!” Groudon laughed his big, hearty laugh again, “I took a deep breath, jumped on her and forced her underwater. And then I held her there till she drowned.. Simple. Not many things survive me jumping on them!”
“No. I shouldn’t imagine they would. You always did know how to throw your weight around. By the way… what did you do with Kyogre’s remains?”
“Guess.”
“What?”
“Go on, guess. You’ll never guess.”
“Bury them?”
“Nope.”
“Throw them in your volcano?”
“And get nasty whale bits in it? I hope you’re joking, ha!”
“I was. Go on then. I give in,” said Rayquaza, “what did you do with Kyogre?”
“Put it this way. I just had the best fish dinner in history,” Groudon laughed and patted his belly.
“You… ate Kyogre?!” Rayquaza cried, disbelieving.
“Sure did.” Groudon grinned proudly.
Rayquaza pondered this fact for a moment.
“So… was it nice?”
“It was amazing.”
“Oh.”
Rayquaza paused for a moment.
“And you didn’t save any for me?”
I apologise if you're a Kyogre fan ^^;
