This section seems to be full of fanfics that only have the first chapter in them. Sometimes it isn't even the full first chapter. My point is, I feel there should be some requirements for posting a fanfic here. Perhaps have at least 5 chapters already written and saved on your computer before you post the first. I think people would be more inclined to finish their work if they had already put that much time into it. |

Sorry for the bump, but I had another idea of a way to improve the quality of fanfics. Why not have a fanfic application thread like the RP one in the Role Playing section? The author would submit a summary of what their fanfic is going to be about and the mods of this section give it the ok if they approve of it. |

That may not be the best idea. For one, you can't tell much from a summary, a story could sound good overall but when it is written not be all that great. For another, everyone has their own idea of what makes a fic worth reading. All the mods may not agree, which would lead to fights and such, and angry 'Why didn |

Yeah, guess I'm late to respond here but what the flaffy of orange says is true, most of your advise is way out of whack. Orange-Flaffy's got a great fanfic, but he didn't have to follow any of your advise- I'll be conceited enough to ay that I've got a decent story too, but yet I didn't have to follow any of that. The requirements shouldn't be to over-reach a good fic; the requirements should revolve around having something people want to read. GOOD GRAMMAR. I can NOT stress this necessity enough. A fanfic with terrible grammar is a fanfic shooting itself in the foot and lighting itself on fire. There is no reason why there shouldbe more than, say, 1 garmmar mistake per page (as in like page on word processor where you type your fic) at the very MOST. PRE-TYPE YOUR CHAPTER IN A WORD PROCESSOR BEFORE YOU POST IT. Don't just hit the 'reply' button and write poop. Nobody wants that. Open up Word and type your chapter there. Save it, look over it, get someone to help you edit it. USE SPELL CHECK. It's there for a reason. This isn't as much of a rule as it is supplementary to good grammar. Advise to aspiring writers: read other fanfics! Look at other people's writing and learn from them. |

The moderators of this section are working on the Fanfiction Forum's rules. Thank you all for your suggestions. We'll see what we can do. Please feel free to post any other suggestions you may have. |

I know this may go against how you guys run the whole site but...I think the rule against posting after a month has gone by should be lifted in the fanfic section if it is the author themselfs adding a new chapter. Many authors I know do write very long fics, but often a gap of a month or more between those chapters is common place. |

In that case, it won't be considered rule-breaking. |

Thank you:)! I just did'nt see that anywhere in the rule post, I guess I missed it... Also, may I suggest that a stickied topic be started here where authors can talk about writing andor their fics together? That might draw more people in... |

I'd appreciate that a lot myself- A 'Writer's Lounge' like most professional sites have. |
