Well, I haven't seen a topic like this around. All walkthroughs or guides should be posted here for spriting. Also, any hints or tips could be posted about sprites or the programs. I have a few tips to start off for Paint: 1. Always have the Draw Opaque box clicked, this way, everything will have fake transparency when moving around. 2. Zooming in is an essential way to keep track on pixels. X8 is the furthest and most effective. 3. If you don't want to keep zooming in and out again to see the main sprite, click 'View' then 'Zoom' and then 'Show Thumbnail', this should bring up a little window with the full size image. 4. If you're struggling to see where pixels are in a line, click 'View', 'Zoom' and then 'Show Grid'. This'll bring up a grid when zoomed in X4 or more. |

If anyone has a guide to animations using GIMP, t'would be appreciated! BTW, something useful to add: with GIMP, when you have a recoloured/restored old RBY/GSC sprite, it should have a white backround when you saved it to be changed. To get rid of the backround, use the "select contigous regions" icon on the small menu and click on the white space. Pull the selected white space off the picture, and hey presto, you have an old sprite without a backround! This is not only aesthetically pleasing, it also means that you can use the sprite in Battle Screens or other related stuff. |
