I just read that mind reader does not affect one hit knock out moves. Is this true, and if so what was the reason for the alteration of this move? |

It does, A popular set with Articuno is Mind reader+sheer cold. I haven't heard of it changing in platinum or anything either. |

I've heard of that set to but I just read something in the techdex that contradicts it. |

Ah, that's for hitting thru protect/detect. for instance Thunder has 70% acc. but after mind reader/lock on it will hit through protect 30% of the time, Fire blast 15% Icy wind 5% etc. OHKO moves don't apply to this as their blocked by protect fully. |

Well it's a shame that OHKO moves are banned, even for their terrible inaccuracy or the need to use a turn before to guarantee a hit...but that means it takes 2 turns to make a OHKO, therefore in my opinion a 2HKO. |

It turns battles into a test of luck. 1. People use Mind Reader, their opponent will likely switch to avoid the Mind Reader, and the OHKO is back to 30% accuracy. 2. Players don't use Mind Reader, and there is a 30% chance of success. Either way, it's that 30% that can make the difference between a win and a lose - which depends on luck. |
