Shinies are bastardingly hard to get, even with Pokeradar.
Look at the Shiny section on the main website - you'll see they are very hard to find, despite pokeradar.

Whoa dude...56.
Anyway I don't have a pic, but I've tried to convince my best friend...

THERE'S NO SUCH SHINY HUNTING!

I don't mean to nag...but that's how it is...the sparkle may be a little like a 4-sided diamond, if ya know what I mean. But they for sure aren't those couple lines.
Or of course...
Dawn/Lucas: "Could that be true?" NOOOOOOO!

lol, chaining shinies can get ridiculously frustrating.
But shiny patches should look a 'little' bit more distinct than the normal white rustle you when you chain. If you're observant enough, you should be able to differentiate from the normal rustles, but you'd have to be alert to notice this.
I can't remember clearly, but I think the colour seemed abit different in a 'sparkly' sort of sense. Also, it does the sparkle twice, this sparkle might be abit slower than the usual white rustles you see.
I should also mention it's relatively brighter than usual as well.
Aside... if you're looking for shinx, how bout use a pokemon with static? According to the Psydex locations, the best place seems to be route 202.
These won't help with increasing chances, but at least it'd probably keep your chaining going for abit more ^^;;

*sigh*
Shiny hunting does NOT increase the chance of a pokémon being shiny... so chain 8192 if you want... it won't guarantee you a shiny. What it does do is increase the chance of SEEING a shiny... because (apparently) they sparkle in a unique way... therefore while chaining, you are more likely to see this (as you see 5-10 at a time... rather than 1)
The only benefit of chaining is that it is usually quicker to OHKO your opponent than charging up the Pokéradar each time...

Ops, did I imply it increases chances?
I meant that increasing your encounter rate with the same pokemon helps in reducing the chances for your chain to break..
Anyways, the probably should be 1/8192 for each pokemon you encounter, and the maximum number of rustles you can get is 4 at a time.
HOWEVER, chaining DOES give you somewhat control over what you'd like to chain since you'll only be focusing on one species (Provided your chain doesn't break), along with upto 4 patches to choose from (Which in turn speeds up the hunting process).
Of course, if the game's nasty, you may never find your shiny :
I should know this, since I've been able to pull it off a number of times already :S

The chaining shinies theory is: Every time you chain once, the odds of getting a shiny are increased by half.
Example: First of the chain = 1/8120. Second of the Chain = 1/4060. Third of the chain = 1/2030. Fourth of the chain = 1015. Fifth of the chain = 1/507.5. Sixth of the chain = 1/253.75.
Et Cetera, Et Cetera.

Et Cetera, Et Cetera.
This is called Gambler's Fallacy. EDIT: Better Link.
But with pokeradar, you see more than one spot of grass with a pokemon, so it shows you a 2-7(not sure whats max)/8120 chance of finding one each time.

Woooooooooowwwww!
I was afraid i could't see the differnce
of the shiny bush but is really flash and stuff....
It works,i finnaly got my shiny shinx on a 12 Chain!!!
(Ironic)...
it's yellow and stuff and she is a lv 42 now and she is somewhat
strong...
and i tried again on and got 4 Shiny...
The trick is to stop entering on the battles
And starting reseting the radar until you find shinies...
(About 44 or 58, i would say...)
Pokeradar shiny hunting works...
if you have patience...

hey thats awesome!! im glad to see evidence from someone that it actually works. one of these days ill get around to trying it myself. i have a shiny shinx too - they are so cute
so, i just wanted to clarify the last thing you said. are you saying that you would use the radar, then run 50 steps and use it again, repeating this procedure, without entering battles?

That's exactly what he said, quicker than trying to continue the chain.

That's right, so using the Pokeradar does give better chances of finding a shiny than battling normally..

If you take the average number of patches as 5, then the chance of finding a shiny in one go is 1/1624
This means that the chance of a shiny after 10 battles (chaining) is 1/162, compared with 1/812 for normal battling.
HOWEVER!!!!
As Gal correctly pointed out, this does not mean that the 10th battle has a 1/812 chance of being shiny (if the first nine are not)!!!
This simply highlights the benefits of chaining - that after ten battles you are a lot more likely to have seen one.
N.B. This simplification actually breaks down after a while... for example after 8120 battles, this simple way will tell you that you are guarunteed a shiny... clearly not true! In actual fact the true formula is:
1 - (8119/8120) to the power of P x E
Where P is the number of pokémon seen per encounter, and E is the number of encounters.
Random trivia! After 8120 battles the chance of a shiny is actually less than two thirds!
More random trivia! To get a 50% chance of finding a shiny you need to do 5629 battles! (Or ~1125 with pokéradar chain)
Happy hunting! 1125 is still a lot of battles!

In these three days i got some more shinies...
x2 (both nature:careful) chain Number:50 and 55
x1 (nature:naive)chain number:25
x1 (nature:bold)chain number:9
Swarming pokemon make excellent chains...
I recomend it...
oh and take many(hundreds) max repels...
there some tips i found some places...
1)In this example down there, see the C on the middle as you.
And the numbers the steps away from you...
444444444
433333334
432111234
4321C1234
432111234
432222234
433333334
444444444
If C is you,4 steps is the biggest chance of raising your chain, and 1 step has the lesser chance.Ok nothing new, but...
444444444
4B3333334
432111234
A321C1234
432111234
432222234
433333334
444444444
From A to C we have 4 steps...(counting the A),
From B to C we have 5 steps, what logically would be "farthest"...
but that thought its wrong...
Only the biggest distance on one direction is used to
calculate the farthest one.
Ex:
4 steps left = 4 Steps
3 steps left + 2 steps up=3 Steps
I think that's correct ...
I got a 72 miltank chain with that ...
but no shinies though....

So do pokeradar chains actually increase your chances of getting shinies or what...?

No, example:
bushin wrote: {cubone} x2 (both nature:careful) chain Number:50 and 55
x1 (nature:bold) chain number:9
High chains do not increase your chances of getting a shiny.
Since pokeradar allows you to see more than 1 spot of grass, using it increases it by knowing which grass will be shiny (the rainbow grass) so it wouldn't no longer 1/8120, but 2-6/8120 each time.
Obviously if your persistent and keep searching for one, you might eventually get one, but each time the grass shakes, it will always be 2-6/8120 chance of being shiny.
Like I said before:

Actually its slightly less than that

Nice and simple... but for low values it is roughly the same...
