I like Hitmonchan because he can use different element punches.

I'm also considering a hitmontop, as one of my main 6 while going through the game.
I just have a feeling about hitmontop, as it never seemed useful in gen II, but looking through the moves it can now learn, as well as technician, I feel I could do something cool with it if it had a -ve speed nature...

Hitmontop with Technician and Fake Out/Drain Punch/Mach Punch/filler is one of the scariest things known to man. (Not sure if it gets Sucker Punch, but if it does, that's even scarier.)

Oh...I though revenge would've been a good move for it combined with technician, and made slower to have the chance to unleash large damage often. And I think it can learn sucker punch, or at least the last time I check the move tutor options for it.

Hitmontop gets Sucker Punch via Gen 4 tutor, and a bolstered Revenge does not get a Technician boost iirc. You are much better off abusing priority.

For in game purposes, either Pokemon works. Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee, and Hitmontop (especially in later generations) learn a lot of useful attacks even just by leveling up. For competitive battling, Hitmontop is the most common last time I checked because of its versatility and especially with Technician. Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee have their strengths as well though, especially with their abilities Iron Fist and Reckless respectively.
However if you're like me you'll at the very least make the effort to get the entire Hitmon trio.
