YES! THE TIME HAS FINALLY COME!!!
In about seven months, I will finally be able to celebrate the very traditional QUINCENERA!!!!! (keen-sen-nyeh-rah) I can't wait! I already know which dress I want (it has roses on it!) and I'm still working out the budget! The reason I started this Forum is so I could possibly get advice about my big day, or I could give you advice about your big day!
Any questions?

I have a question.
Why are you talking about your 15th birthday SEVEN MONTHS before it actually happens?

Because! Quincenera's take a very long time to plan. (It's about as traditional as a wedding) Insane, I know, but it's apart of my culture so I might as well go with it! (plus, it's a huge freakin party so of course I'm planning like crazy)
I've got to buy my dress, then I've got to practice the waltz, ect....a lot of time goes into it. Sometimes, there are Quincenera's in freakin expensive hotel ballrooms with limos and a bunch of other stuff...

Where is this a tradition? I've never heard of such a thing, nor has the Wiki.
Sweet 16, yes. 16 is the age where you can start driving. 15 though.. nothing really happens at 15, in most places.

It's a Spanish Tradition, most likely aging back to the Aztec or Mayan. When I first heard of it I was like "15...that's kind of strange...."
Who knows, maybe spanish people age faster.... Just kidding!
Either way, I still can't wait. I'm half Puerto Rican, so that means I get the sweet 15 and the sweet 16... All I know is the sweet 15's gonna be more important.

[Edit: I was writing this when TJ submitted the post right before mine, and I didn't realize it until I hit Submit. Anyway, it's mainly for the people who aren't familiar with the culture...]
In the Hispanic culture, the Quincinera, or fifteenth year, is a very sacred time for a girl. It is celebrated with a huge banquet that takes a very, very long time to plan and is the result of alot of hard work by relatives and the girl herself.
The fifteenth year is so special because in the Hispanic culture, it is the year that a girl crosses into the circle of womanhood, and is a very respected and upheld tradition.
So, as you can see, it doesn't really matter where you live. It's more of a culural tradition that has been passed down for centuries.
Hope this clears things up.
(Congratulations, Tiffany Jewel! Wow, you must be psyched!!)

A new one? I haven't heard of it yet. I do know that there's already a quince movie out... it's called "Quincenera means Sweet 15". We normally watch it during Spanish class.
