I've been meaning to make this for a while.
If you could have a dream team, what people what you play? Who would be subs? Why did you choose that random person? Etc. Give reasons.
My team:
Strikers: Jan Koller (Czech Republic) & Zinedine Zidane (France)
Midfielders: Joe Cole (England), Fredrik Ljungburg (Sweden), Francesco Totti (Italy) & Bastian Schweinsteigger (Germany)
Defenders: John Terry (England), Willy Sagnol (France), Nuno Valente (Portugal) & Ashley Cole (England)
Goalkeeper: Oliver Kahn (Germany)
Subs:
Strikers: Thierry Henry (France) & Micheal Owen (England)
Midfielders: Pavel Nedved (Czech Republic), Tomas Rosicky (Czech Republic), Patrick Vieira (France)
Defenders: Cafu (Brazil), Fabio Cannavaro (Italy)
Goalkeepers: Jens Lehmann (Germany), Peter Cech (Czech Republic), Ricardo (Portugal), Gianluigi Buffon (Italy)
Thats my team averagely.
I'll write the reasons later as literally I have to go. Au Revoir.

No Beckham? Kahn over Buffon? And I bet the only reason you picked Schweinsteigger is because he scored twice yesterday. And Zidane won't be playing anymore after today, so you might want to pick someone else just in case. Other than that, this is fine.
I assume you're using the 4-4-2 formation?

Im basing the players from.. a year ago. So Zidane has a year on my team left.
Yes 4-4-2
For those of you that don't know anything about 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 etc, this is 4-4-2:
2 2
4 4 4 4
4 4 4 4
4 defenders, 4 mids, 2 strikers.
S_S, your reason for Swiensteigger or however its spelt isnt really right. Im impressed with him all the time.
Yes, Kahn over Buffon.
1. I dislike Italians
2. Kahn is uuber.

You shouldn't not pick someone just because you hate what team they're on :/
Anyway, I just assumed the Schweinsteigger thing because of the date you posted it.
You still need Beckham and Ronaldo though ;o

I'll just use rubypoke's format to save some time
My team:
Strikers: Fernando Torres (Spain) & Thierry Henry (France)
Midfielders: Kaka (Brazil), Andrea Pirlo (Italy), Steven Gerrard (England) & Joaquin Sanchez (Spain)
Defenders: William Gallas (France), John Terry (England), Fabio Cannavaro (Italy), Carles Puyol (Spain)
Goalkeeper: Gianluigi Buffon (Italy)
Subs:
Strikers: Samuel Eto'o (Cameroon), Ronaldinho (Brazil)
Midfielders: Pavel Nedved (Czech Republic), Zinedine Zidane (France), Patrick Vieira (France), Juninho Pernambucano (Brazil)
Defenders: Ashley Cole (England), Roberto Ayala (Argentina), Giovanni Van Bronckhorst)
Goalkeepers: Iker Casillas (Spain)
That's about it... I've based my choices on who I like generally as well as results from this World Cup. And I bet many of you forgot about players like Samuel Eto'o, who are excellent players who unfortunately missed the plane to Germany as their teams didn't qualify. Oh, and I know Zidane has retired, but since that's kinda recent I've still included him into my roster.
Reasons will come later, hopefully.

I'm a bit surprized that no one used Del Piero. He's a great player and he showed it at the World Cup.

Screw lists, I'm using a picture.
I'm using a modified 4-4-2 shaped like a 3-5-2 with the midfield and defensive lines forming a diamond. Subs are on the right side.
Flags made completely by me from scratch in MS Paint.

Heh, good effort. The entire thing looks good.
Well I totally overlooked the coach when I was thinking about my dream team, so thanks for the reminder F_W I think Guud Hiddink would be my choice. He's done well wherever he goes, especially by leading South Korea to the semis in 2002, and Australia into the second round this year.
Oh and I'm surprised by the inclusion of Christoph Metzelder in the first 11. He didn't seem comfortable enough in the middle of the German defence imo. Good player yes, but not yet world class material.

The last thing i expected is Shevchenko as a started. I mean he didn't do so well + Zidane might be better even though he's retired.

Well we are all basing our dream teams on players we like and admire, and not purely on the performance of these players at the World Cup. Shevchenko did not do well in the World Cup, but his history as a player speaks volumes of his ability

He's a good player, but only for his club. I think that when it comes to playing for their countries instead of money they aren't so dedicated (Drogba is another good example). Very few palyers did all they could for their nation: Canavaro, Zidane and Ghana (the whole team). I think that any player who doesn't play the best he can for his nation is not all that good, just a mercenary.

Rumor has it that the US national team is trying to strike a deal with Klinnsmann to be the new manager. i hope so. he played everyone on the roster minus the 3rd string keeper.

That might be true, but it's also because of the kind of service that he receives. At AC Milan, he's got Kaka, Seedorf, Pirlo, Gattuso and all the other quality players playing with him, so obviously he'll be able to play better. Compared to that, Ukraine's squad simply pales in comparison. That might prove to be too huge a burden for him to bear, hence resulting in his poorer performances.

Ture and i didn't think of it. However that doesn't apply for some of the other players who should have played beter. Shevchenko is just one of them
