this is the planning stage, nothing is set in stone.
Hehe, was thinking, how about we make an elite 4 and gymleaders for psypokes online battles, going how the games go, you need all 8 badges till you can face the elite 4 then when you beat them you become the champion.
Apart from Ubers everything would be allowed, and the gym leader can choose the rules of their specific battles when it comes to 2v2 or 1v1.
Also, the Leaders and Elite 4 must specilize in one type but can have 1-2 of a different type and no one gym and elite 4 can have the same type, to add some variety. Gym leaders and Elite 4 stay the same until they step down and champion is the one that changes You must also fight the leaders in order and the elite 4, and the level cap is decided by the leaders, however all the elite 4 are lvl100.
Gym Leaders
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
Elite 4
1.
2.
3.
4.
Champion
Previous Champions
Current badge holders
And incase you didn't get the block of text up there here are some simple rules.
1. You must fight the gym leaders and Elite 4 in order, and you can decide a time to fight them.
2. Gym leaders and elite 4 should specalize on one type, but can have 2 maximum of a different type.
3. Gym leaders can decide if their battles are 1v1 or 2v2.
4. All battles are 6 Pokémon each.
5. Gym leaders can specify a max level limit, however Elite 4 is all 100 and so is the champion.
6. No Ubers.
7. Challengers can have a variety of types, so the 2 pokémon gym leaders can vary with should cover weaknesses.
8. All gym leaders and Elite 4 should specalize in different types.
9. After 10 defeats a gym leader or elite 4 will give up their place when an adequet replacement is found.
See if we could get this going? Would be cool for seeing the best of the best.
If entering as an elite 4 or Gym leader say your Friend code and type specs and if a leader say if it will be 1v1 or 2v2. PM me your team. Challengers PM leaders to challenge them.
The Winner and loser should then post in this thread to confirm the result, no lieing please .
Nobody can be a gym leader yet D:

Well this could be a fun little unofficial thing, but I have to ask how on earth would you decide gym/elite four rank?
I mean it would be disappointing if the elite four were easier than the gym leaders.

I like this idea a lot. Maybe a kickoff tournament for people who are interested could determine placement? First place would be the Champion, and downward to the first Gym Leader.
A problem I see is what would happen if a Gym Leader or Elite Four member is missing in action? (i.e. hasn't been online for a long time). I'd imagine they'd be replaced, but there needs to be a procedure set up for that. A major problem would be if there are not enough people interested to fill all of the positions. I mean, that is at least 13 positions to keep filled on a constant basis. Maybe that's not a problem though.
Either way, there would need to be someone in charge of administrating the whole system. This person would make sure that all positions are filled, that no types are duplicated, what level restrictions are in play (it would make sense for the first gym to be lowest level, and increase on higher gyms), and all sorts of stuff. This person could be labeled 'Administrator' of the Pokemon League, or it could simply be the Champion. If the Champion is MIA then the next person down takes charge. Will you be doing this Nubby?
To gain a Gym Leader position after the initial tournament is over maybe there would be regular challenger tournaments? The tournament would be all of the same type and level, and the winner of the tournament can challenge the Gym Leader for control if he or she has lost more than a certain number of matches. This would keep a steady incline of ability that has to be overcome. Would a member be able to change their lineup? You said to PM a chosen team, but as long as the types are matching up maybe you should allow for changing of lineups without notification. If teams are static (unchangeable) challengers would learn how to win for the next match.
To gain an Elite Four position you would have to have been a Gym Leader for X amount of time (shows constant upkeep of ability to avoid fluke-ins). Then they'd be able to challenge a member in a similar fashion of Gym Leaders.
The current Champion would not be eligible for holding another position. A former Champion could be a member of the Elite Four though, for example.
I don't know if I like that challengers can use any type of pokemon. Pokemon League members would have to use only one type (with the two allowed 'others') which is unfair. The type restrictions should definitely be in place, but maybe the challengers should also have to use those same types. The winner really would deserve it then. Otherwise most league members will probably have a losing record rather than a winning one. Also, about the two 'other' types being allowed... well, it doesn't seem to fit. There's so many dual-types out there now that there can be a lot of variety no matter what you pick. Allowing for another two types that don't fit the style of the gym is kinda lame, to put it bluntly. I understand the reasoning for allowing it, but it's also wishy-washy to the whole idea. If the challengers are required to use the same type as the member then there is no problem. It would take a lot more effort for raising teams to challenge the League, but that's also a good thing. Gym Leaders might want to have the ability to decide whether or not to accept a challenge, as well. Like, if one challenger is being annoying by challenging every day, they might not want to accept for a few days or a week. This seems reasonable to me.
I'm all for it. If Psypoke is up for it maybe the badges from this could be incorporated into Trainer Cards?
Sorry for the block of text. I don't mean to criticize your idea either, Nubby. I just wanted to help with some ideas.

Well, if we could somehow bring up a list of elegible candidates then perform a giant round robin tournament we'd have some clear scores. Then it's just a matter of putting the top 13 into place.

not a bad idea. IMO if someone wants to become a Gym Leader/ Member of the elite four, they have to use a team made up of the same kind of pokemon, in other words, a theme team. That way we can keep it as original as possible.

Half the champions had diverse teams. We see what you're saying though.

Gym Leaders and Elite Four still basically have the same types, though. Champions, yeah, should have diverse teams.
Really though, even a few Gym Leaders and Elite Four could have different types as long as there is some sort of theme. A witch-like Gym Leader (Hex Maniac) could use Psychic, Ghost, and Dark.

Pfft, don't be sorry, your post is very informative.
I would try my best to administrate it, but I wouldn't be the champion
I see where you;re coming from with the type problem, but the only problem I see there is that then trainers would have to raise so many different teams they may just give up, I also like the idea of the leaders teams changing, as long as they notify me first. Also, how about instead of a type user, a certain theme? as long as they can justify using a pokémon to that theme, why not? And it allows challengers to use a their own teams instead of the same type team.
I do like your idea of replacing gym leaders though, if you have msn, would you mind adding me? ( iamcrazy_chris@hotmail.co.uk) so we can try and fine tune this idea?

This sounds like a fun idea, I'm in. I'll make a bug team later and call dibs on being a Gym Leader. Hey, can we design our own badges to go along with our team?
