Can I request that you put up this link as well under resources?
Gimptalk.com Official Tutorial Index
It's great, and offers lots of tutorials for sigs and other, more interesting stuff in GIMP. It's also listed after what it's for, so you don't have to search through it for ages like *coughthekoopabrosgimpfaqcough*

ARG! I was trying to make Mini-sprites for the the Create a Sinnoh forum icon thing and I saved it as .gif. Guess what happened? It messed up the colors like a .jpeg would, but they were still .pngs! Can somebody help me before I ***** the computer?

Did you save it as a .gif or .png?

Is there anyway to get multiple layer fusions codes to put on a forum without ruining it's color? Tinypic and imageshack don't accept .xct or whatever it was.

As far as I know, no. However, I don't see the need for someone to have a multi-layer image hosted on the web, unless for demonstration purposes or if you're making an animation.
Seriously, unless you've got an animated sig, you really don't need multiple layers, apart from when you're making the sig.
That was a bad explaination. Hey, I just did sports day and I'm sodding tired.

I try to save it as the others (excluding jpg) but it says it has multiple layers, and that's not what I want. Is there anyway to remove the layers without making my image a total wreck?

Okay, when it asks you about that, just click OK. It'll flatten the image, which will have literally NO change, apart from making the entire image one layer.

Do you mean the .xcf? In that case, you should rather make it a .png or.gif or whatever in GIMP. Just open it and save it as one of them, then click OK until it's saved. Now you can upload it to wherever you.. upload. If you want to upload an .xcf, to show others how you made it (which is the only purpose I can think of), then that's a different story

Because it limits you to 256 colours or greyscale.
I'd go for greyscale, if you're THAT desperate for your image to be .gif. I'll assume that since you noticed a change in colour, you must be trying to make a sig, and so I'd recommend you just stick to .png. If you're making an animated sig, that's different.

No, I'm trying to do Mini icons for the forum. And Firestarter wrote that they must be saved as .gif.

Re-save it as a .png, and post it here. I'll see what I can do. If that's okay with the competition rules, of course...

You know, if you want us to answer any of your questions, you got to be a lot more precise. A few posts up you have so far told us that you saved it as .bmp, .png AND .gif. Exactly, what's your problem?

Okay, I guess I wasn't clear.
While making them, by acedent I saved them as Bitmap. So when I made them transparent on GIMP, I forgot they weren't .gif. So once I finished it, I deleted it off my computer and then saved it, but this time as .gif. And it messed up the colors. Now every time I try to save it as .gif it acts like a .jpeg...

Oh k, that was a whole lot easier to understand. Your problem is beyond my knowledge though, I have no idea how to solve it. Technically, it's a Paint problem, because what caused it was that you saved it wrong on Paint, right?
Come to think of it, I don't think you can solve it, because you're pretty screwed with the bitmap thing.

I cant make my background transparent...
My sprite comes up and it appears with a black background. Then I right click and click dialog, then layers. The pop up comes up and the layer thats highlighted says "Floating Selection (Pasted Layer)". I right click that and it wont let me click on Add Alpha Channel. I also tried it on the other layer which says "Background" and I still can't click on it. Can you please help me?
Also which tool is the magic wand? Is it the "Select Contiguous Regions" button?

1. Don´t copy your sprites off FireFox. Do it off Internet Explorer to get a white background, which is a lot easier to get rid of.
2. I´m not sure quite what the problem is. I´m away from my own computer right now, so I can´t really troubleshoot as well as possible. My one suggestion is to left click on the blank bit of screen that isn`t the sprite when you have it open.
3. Yes, Magic Wand = Select Contigous Region. It was simply easier to write Magic Wand.

I'm not exactly sure what's gone wrong. Are you saving into the GIMP's brushes folder?
