Yeah I think this Chomp ban wont last long, Smogon has never taken such a hard hit to its credibility before.

I thought you didn't care about Competitive Battling. Besides not everyone agrees with Garchomp being bumped to Ubers tier anyways.


Honestly I stop caring about what Smogon thought when they moved Garchomp to ubers and not Deoxys-E.

I didn't see anything that implied I did care. All I see is me crudely mocking the competitive players who get so upset about changes like this to their precious metagame.

I'm a competitive battler, and I loved the bump. I was sick of Garchomp and the arguments for Uberfying it made sense, so yeah.

I'm amazed this Garchomp thing went this far. Garchomp shouldn't be an uber. An uber's stronger than Garchomp would ever hope to be.

...Im guessing smogon's reason was because it was pointless to have everyone either using a Garchomp or needing a Counter. I agree that its too weak for Uber, but its far too good for OU.

Nobody said Smogon was the boss of everyone's teams, its their opinion and people follow it.

And the gay people thing and Nazi things just were not funny. And Smogon doesn't care for Serebii noobs, I think they'd go on other things too.

ya garchomp is pretty much NU now, its really good in standards, but sucks in uber. and deoxys speed is basically garbage now that its uber. However, I do find Smogon extremely helpful when trying to make a team. I don't always follow they're movesets exactly, but they have some good ideas.

I agree that Smogon has become a repository of egomaniacs. However, they're dedicated egomaniacs, and there's a system to ensure at least a modicum of observation in a test environment under both controlled and uncontrolled conditions to back up decisions like the Garchomp ban. Ultimately, the only issues affected by Smogon decisions are those related to the Shoddy tournament tiers. Those who choose to follow Smogon/Shoddy tiers and rules - and often people pick and choose which rules and tier lists they'll follow anyway - usually do so because they make sense in the context in which those people want to play, not because they're directed from on high by the lords of Pokemon. There's a reason that a lot of the best minds on Psypoke use terms and reasoning spawned on Smogon. Hell, how many people here have accounts there, too?

I support the Garchomp ban. Just not necessarily for all the same reasons the Smogon/Shoddy crew chose to ban it. Ultimately, if the metagame shifts enough to warrant it, I have every belief that Garchomp will drop back to OU. I don't usually like to at those who want to raise issues counter to the mainstream voice, but the complaints about this ban sound a little butthurt to me. :/

And while I can tell there was definite work put into the video, it frankly required too much investment of my time and energy - and too much predisposition against Smogon - for me to care to watch it in its entirety. You're preaching to the choir with that one; the congregation already went back to their regularly scheduled browsing.

Lol, Cactuar, what do you know? Last I checked you don't even EV train. You're right about Garchomp getting killed in ubers, but the Uber tier wasn't originally made to be a tier of its own; it's a ban list for standard to take away overpowering and overcentralizing Pokemon. Yes, it will get shredded (it might have a chance...maybe). No, Smogon is not messed up; they know what they're talking about because they do extensive testing. Unless you were being sarcastic, Grumpig could never stand up to Garchomp (even though it is cute).

My stance on the matter? It was a bit overcentralizing (forcing you to have an ice beamer -- even that wasn't enough, you basically lose 2 pokes), but I don't really care either way. It might come down eventually. You never know...

Win.
