I was shocked, Proboards oen of the top Message Board creations, recently upgraded. In doing so, every member who used Proboards had to "re-register". In doing so they had to give their age.

Any user under the age of 13 was instantly deleted worldwide, regardless of how close their birthday was.

Luckily, Psypoke uses phpbb, and software that is downloaded, meaning the creators have no control over your board. Apparently Proboards is connected somehow, and terror struck. 12 and under? It is really neccessary?

Millions of pre-teen Proboards users were deleted, no warning was given to them nor the Administrators. So, what do you think?

Was Proboards in the wrong?

When answering think about various things such as:

~Your view on Users under the age of 13
~Fairness to those millions of users
~How it affects Proboards themselves

So what?

Personally, if some child wishes to join a mEssage Board, let them do it! It isn't fair to delete them because of age! In the binding contract for Admins to use the software, is states their should be no pornograhpic images, vulgar use of language and excetera. So what excuse could they possibly have? This will definetely affect Proboards, the more people find out, the less likely they will be to use it.

All educated thoughts are welcome, and please think about it before posting.

I think it probably has something to do with the US law which states children under 13 can't sign up to message boards without parental consent due to potentially offensive things being posted.

But I don't think the makers of boards should go into someone else's forums and just delete users, the makers of the forums have no liability so I don't know why they would do it.

I personally think it's fine in some situations. Like here for example, we keep everything pretty clean and I feel it's safe for kids under the age of 13 to sign up, and we have to expect it being a Pokemon based forum. If I had a kid, I wouldn't stop them from signing up to a forum.

And you are right by mentioning the liability of the creators. So that still leaves the question why? If they aren't liable why would they care?

The shadow of mystery covers that still, I think I will investigate.

The fact that people between the ages of 13-18 actually need parental permission to sign up for the message boards is bad enough. I definitely hope that this won't seep out into other message board servers.

I know, this really struck me because you may know my message board, the E4 is proboards run. This really does suck, I might restart my board on phbb. Its just, woah, I mean, really, they should moniter it, but not jsut delete anyone under 13, I say, if your under 13 and you were destroyed, just resign up and lie about your age, again, I think I'll set up the board on phbb.

I just looked at phbb and its way too confusing, I might switch it to my original message board host, EZboard.

Referring to Nido: Agreed. Luckily, phpbb isn't server run such as Proboards. However, they do offer phpbbforfree, which is a free service devoted to their forums. I know some epople who use that, and boy are they making a mistake.

"It's so easy, you just set up and go!" exclaimed someone I know. I later heard him/her whisper to another person, "You see, he has to have an Index page and crap..." sure! A website with a page why not? What would Psypoke be like if it only contained forums? I can tell you, my Warriors board is certainly relying on the information I give on seperate pages. My question for you phpbbforfree users, are you to lazy to create a flippin index page!?

So hopefully phpbb, doesn't force their users to have the boards run on their server in the future, otherwise, their won't be any GOOD Message Board software anymore.

I am under 13 and my account on pokedream was deleted but Mewtwo restored all my posts after I signed in again.

Oh yeah! If anybody on my board was deleted, sign up again, if ANYONE remembers your posts I'll gladly bring the count back up.

This is an outrage! I'd like some more opinions!
