Today at school I got my course card for high school. I know a lot of people on this forum are/have been in high school, and I wanted to know what you are/did take. I'm planning on taking:

English 1 Honors
Geometry Honors
Biology Honors
World History Honors
Concert Band 1
Orchestra 1
Japanese 1
Introduction to Engineering Design

Latin I
Religion
General Science
World Geography
Accelerated Geometry
Phy Ed
Study Hall
English 3

That seems right, but it's been a lot time...

The 6 periods of my first freshman high school semester, in order.
  1. Biology
  2. Composition Through Literature 9 (generic freshman English class)
  3. Spanish I
  4. Marching Band
  5. U.S. History
  6. Honors Algebra 2
I'm surprised I remembered it that well, to be honest. To be fair, I only had to remember back to 2006, unlike some of the senior citizens around here. :p

EXCUSE YOU MR. YOUNG PERSON

But hey kids, I was once your age too. I found my old post here ;)

Quote:
1st period: Tutoring
2nd period: English 11
3rd period: Ind Tech
4th period: Science 11
5th period: Comp. Living/Parenting Plus
6th period: Int Math
7th period: Tutoring/ms office
8th period: Gym/Tutoring

I was kind of indifferent about my junior year. It wasn't as bad as Senior or Freshmen year but it wasn't as good as Sophomore year either. I was a Junior almost six years ago, that's really saying something about my age.

My freshman year, I took:

Honors World History I
Honors World Literature I
Algebra II
Band -> PowerPoint certification course 2nd semester
Biology
PE
Seminar (basically, tutoring or home period)

The seminar thing was pretty much a DoDEA requirement, so it was only the top 6 that I actually signed up for. This year, I'm taking:

Pre-AP Chemistry (same as honors, essentially)
AP Calculus AB
Game Programming -> Zoology (game programming as a class sucked)
AP Spanish
Web Design (really interesting, btw; we pretty much cover the adobe suite - dreamweaver, flash, and photoshop)
Pre-AP English III
AP US History

So, yeah... I hope next year's slightly easier.

If I remember my freshman year of high school, it was something like

Modern world history
Biology
Honors english 1
German 2
Physical science
Study hall
and honors geometry

Actually, I think that's in the right order too, which is sort of scary.

If I could give any advice I would say don't take honors english or history unless you reall like them because you won't learn anything interesting/useful. I took AP english classes eventually and a lot of AP math and science stuff, which got me out of a lot of classes that people usually have to take. (I've heard freshman english in college is terrible, and I didn't have to take it.) AP classes also save you a lot of money in the long run.

Right now I'm in my second year of college taking:

Intro materials science and engineering
Intro organic chemistry
Thermal systems engineering
and Anatomy
(our school uses quarters not semesters so thats why there are only 4 classes)

FUN STUFF ;_;

My classes in freshman year? It's a lot different from what you'd been saying >_< But it means the same things, I think.

Spanish 1
Concert Orchestra
World History and Geography 1
Phys Ed.
Geometry Honors
English 9
Biology 1 Honors

In sophomore year...
Pre=AP English 10
Chamber Orchestra
Phys. Ed
Algebra 2 Honors
AP World History
Chemistry 1 Honors
Spanish 2

Now, as a Junior in high school, I'm taking...
Chamber Orchestra
Precalculus with Trigonometry Honors
Physics 1
AP US History
Spanish 3
English 11
AP Environmental Science

(We don't have to have P.E. after 10th grade~ And all my classes are by the time of day they are on.

I feel cool living in Canada with all these strange classes and names. Oh and that our school only offers French as a second language. I wish there was more selection.

Anyway, grade 10 went like this:
Yoga 11
Math 10
Pre-AP Science 10
Mik'maw
Fine Arts 10
Advanced Math 11
Advanced Biology 11
Advanced Physics 11

It's just that you live in Nova Scotia :p

For me tenth grade went like this:

English
Math
Science
French
Careers
Civics
Keyboard Music
Canadian History
Religion

French was the only second language offered at my school as well, but the school board offered a bunch of other languages for Saturday school. I took Polish one year and Japanese another.

9th grade: Advanced Biology, Religion, Spanish 2, Honors Geometry, Honors English, Concert Band (Alto Sax), Health/P.E.
10th grade: Honors English, Honors Chemistry, Honors Spanish 3, Honors Algebra 2, Physical Conditioning, Symphonic Band (Alto Sax), Honors World History, Honors Civics and Economics
11th grade: Honors US History, Honors Physics, AP Music Theory, AP English 3 (Language and Composition), Honors Spanish 4, Honors Pre-Calculus, Wind Ensemble (Alto Sax), AP Psychology
Summer between 11th and 12th: Honors Environmental Science
12th grade: AP Calculus AB, AP Spanish 5 (Language (as opposed to Spanish 6, Literature)), AP Physics B, Concert Choir, Theatre Arts 2, AP English 4 (Literature and Composition), Honors Symphonic Band (Bassoon)

That's all from memory, all in order (granted, I'm about to end my senior year). I think I made pretty good choices considering my options. I took no **** classes; I cared about/was required to take every single one of these, from Theatre Arts 2 to Advanced Biology to Concert Choir. As you can see, I'm an avid music student (I won the departmental award this year!) and I enjoy challenging myself with honors and AP classes. I enjoyed Spanish up until this year, when it became unbearable, and I enjoyed Physics. I'm glad I didn't stay at Catholic school, because I would have taken so many fewer classes, what with 7 blocks instead of 8, and religion classes soaking up a block.

Academically, my best year was by far junior year. Luckily, I found myself taking AP English, Honors Physics, AP Music Theory and AP Psychology, courses that taught me how to analyze language, everyday phenomena, music and human behavior. Because I had these classes at the same time, I was able to truly learn the importance of analysis, and, ending the year by reading Freakonomics over the summer, I am now able to analyze anything and everything. It makes life so much better and more exciting!

Also, I took physical conditioning sophomore year because I was running track that year, and lifting weights definitely helped me increase my speed in those short distance races. Also, I didn't have room for yearbook and wasn't thinking creatively as to what else I could have paired with band (band classes are A Day/B Day, meaning we meet every other day and all year as opposed to other classes that meet every day for a semester. A Day/B Day courses must be paired up with another A Day/B Day course).

Lastly, I hated taking an online course. I was not mentally prepared or organized enough to handle so much autonomy, and I almost failed (I did all of my assignments last minute and wound up with a C in the course).

I feel your pain with AP Spanish. My teacher was good at teaching it, but had to be really mean about it. Unfortunately, I decided not to take the test, and on the day of it, felt like I could walk in there and do really great. Word to all incoming freshman who plan on taking AP courses: always order every test. You can go in and try it, or cancel it a week before if you feel there's no way to be ready for it.

I ended this year with 2 B's and 5 A's; I probably could've gotten all A's, but procrastination wound up killing my chances for it. I really can't wait for senior year, although I'll probably wind up shooting myself. My course load for next year:

AP English/Literature
AP Biology
AP US Gov
AP Calc BC
AP Psychology
Humanities/Sociology
Creative Writing/Advanced Creative Writing

What are you guys (who are still in high school or college) taking next year?

Well, since you asked, here are my courses for second year:

Calculus III
Vector Calculus and Fluid Mechanics
Digital and Computer Systems
Waves and Modern Physics
Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer
Engineering, Society and Critical Thinking
Probability and Statistics
Quantum and Thermal Physics
Electromagnetism
Molecules and Materials
An elective - I will try to get into a Slavic studies course
Engineering Design - Basically building a robot. This course is supposed to be a huge pain in the butt, turn your friends into enemies and requires many all nighters.

Yes, you may replace your gun in its holster now, Rex.

Wow this thread is still going! Anyways, it seems that a lot of people are or have been taking Band/Orchestra. I want to know what some of you are playing. I play Alto Sax. I recently went through a week of marching band camp and I'm going to have another week at the end of summer.

I'm not taking any advanced classes out side of math... for my area, Pre-Calc is very advanced, and it wears on me... oh well my last 3 years play out as such:
Freshman year: Spanish 1
Band (my favorite)
P.E. 1 (least favorite)
Health
Government (now for Juniors, so I shouldn't have to take it again)
Geometry (Algebra 1 was my 8th grade math class)
English 9
Biology 1 (at the time, the only biology class)

Sophomore year: Spanish 2 (last year of it thank God)
Band (my favorite of course)
Computer Apps. 1 (another favorite)
Business (mostly a money management class haha)
American History
Chemistry 1 (laziness gave me an F... I could have EASILY had a B had I done all my homework...)
English 10
Algebra 2 (nearly failed it... I HATE advanced math and whoever invented it...)

For this year (Junior year) and next year I am attending a Tech Prep school. Unfortunately I had to give up my favorite thing to go there: Band. But I want to go into Music Education for my career, and the decision was made not only as a backup plan, but to get a job somewhere and start off with decent pay.
Schedule: Computer Technology Academy Lab. We take each of the 4 classes for 9 weeks each our junior year, then pick which class we want to be in our senior year. The CTA Lab consists of
GIS (which works with Maps, GPS's, and the like)
Computer Repair and Support (this is what I want to do for now)
Computer Engineering (small scale computers used in alarm systems, iPods and such are made in that industry apparently)
Game Programmng

Other classes are
Sociology and Psychology (1 semester of each)
English 3 (English 3 = English 11)
Pre-Calculus (it's like Algebra 2+)
Applied Physics Principles

I only HAVE to complete 1 more math class to graduate, I have 30/24 credits needed, when I could have had up to 33.

Hundreds of wasted hours of useless garbage that has not made a difference in my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pottery and filmmaking were pretty fun though. Spanish was fun too because it was pretty easy and my friends and I got everything done in the first ten minutes or so and spent the rest goofing off. Too bad I forgot everything I learned in it! Too bad!

Posting from class right now...

-Honors Langauge/Literature
-Honors Writing
-French I
-Honors Integrated Science I
-Religion I
-Honors Algebra I
-World History I

I've got to have an A average in each of my classes at the end of the marjing period if I want to keep my half-scholarship. Let's hope the essay I was just assigned as I'm typing will bump up my Lit grade a bit. ;)

wow...and i wondered why everyone laughs at the Scottish education system LOL
Scots education is easy: 7 years in primary school, 6 years in secondary school
secondary (HIGH SCHOOL) is even simpler: first and second year is a bit of everything, third and fourth year(im fourth year) you pick subjects for standard grades usually unless you have a mental problem such as dyslexia so finally my subjects are
English credit
maths credit
physics credit
hospitality general/credit
media studies general/credit
computing credit
religious studies credit
french general
there lol hope i haven't upset the balance of your educational thoughts
