We all know the three starters always have been Fire, Water, Grass. But most of the time they have had a second typing as they evolved. Bulbasaur had poison as well as grass. Charmander got Flying with Fire as it evolved. Torchic got Fire and Fighting. Mudkip got Ground ( I think?) as well as water. Turtwig got Ground and Grass as it changed. Chimchar (unfortunately) got fire and fighting. Piplup got Steel as well as Water. Then came Generation 5. Tepig got Fighting and Fire(Ugh...). The newest Generation 6 has unveiled its first evolution pokemon. No one is yet to know what their second typing is (if any). Chespin, Fenniken and Froakie. People have speculated that Fenniken may be the second (after Victini) Fire and Psychic pokemon. But it also could be Fire and Fighting (just like every other Fire type starter ). Chespin has not really had any speculation. Froakie has had it's evolutions awaited. So the big question remains.

WHAT WILL BE THE SECOND TYPING FOR EACH STARTER?

My expectations for the types : Grass/Ground - Fire/Psychic - Water/Ice
My hopes for the Grass type : Grass/Steel, Grass/Rock or Grass/Fighting(preferably the later one this time)
My hopes for the Fire type : Fire/Psychic, Fire/Ice, Fire/Ghost, Fire/Electric, Fire/Poison(preferably the 3rd...or 4th one this time)
My hopes for the Water type : Water/Fighting, Water/Psychic or Water/Poison(preferably the former one)

My guesses:
Grass: Ground/Fighting/Dark
Fire: Psychic
Water: Ice/Fighting/Dark

It would be cool if they were Grass/Dark, Fire/Psychic and Water/Fighting then they'd all be super effective against each other.

based on the trailer, i think Fennekin will be fire/ psychic.
I think Froakie will be Water/ Fighting.
And I think Chespin will be either Grass/ Ground, Grass, or Grass/ Dark

I'm not really sure nor am I too picky about the types. I really hope Fennekin doesn't end up being Fire/Fighting otherwise I'll never hear the end of it from dissapointed fans. I don't think I'll have to worry about that though if the trailer has anything to do with it. However think of this: Chespin Grass/Dark, Fenekin Fire/Psychic, and Froakie Water/Fighting. That way each starter would have an advantage and a disadvantage against each other. That would be interesting.

I can't really see such a cute pokemon like Chespin being a Dark type. But if he is. HE WILL BE MINE! I would like the advantage and disadvantage against each other so everything becomes neutral.

Well Seedot ended up evolving into a Dark/Grass type and it may not be as cute as Chespin but still. Dark isn't necessarily evil it's just associated with like night or something.

My guess for the starters' types:

Chespin: Grass/Fighting or Grass/Dark
Fenniken: Fire/Psychic
Froakie: Water/Dark or Water/Fighting

With these combinations, either the Pokemon have weaknesses to both of the normally advantaged Pokemon's types, or they have a counter to one of them. I'd personally hope for it to be the prior, as I'd love to see Chespin be Grass/Dark, and it'd make it more challenging.

If the secondary types are a dark/fighting/psychic trio (which I hope it is) I think the moves the used may be a clue to who gets what type.
-Fenniken uses what appears to be a psychic type move
-Chespin attacks Golurk, so that rules fighting out (and Golurk is weak to dark)
-That leaves Froakie with fiighting (and patrat is weak to fighting)

That way each of them has a super-effective STAB attack on the other.

I agree DragoBoy, that would be cool if they had that Grass/Dark, Fire/Psychic, Water/Fighting thing going on as their secondary typing respectively...it would do a better job of what Gen 4 was trying to do with the secondary typing of their starter pokemon...

I've heard Grass/Dark, Fire/Psychic, and Water/Fighting being thrown around. That would actually work well since you have the two opposite triangles working here.

But as for me personally, I don't really care much about the final evolution's typing, except for 2 things:
~If there are any dual-types, at least 2 of them have to be dual-typed, preferably all 3.
~Fennekin's final evolution must be Fire/Fighting type. (caution: link has 1 swear in it)

That was hilarious DNA! Great picture!
Blaziken (Gen IV): Ok Infernape's another Fire/Fighting it's just one more no biggie.
Blaziken (Gen V): Ok Emboar's Fire/Fighting as well? This is ridiculous!
Blaziken (Gen VI): Fennekin, the pressure's on. You better be any other type combination than Fire/Fighting when you evolve.

I demand Fennekin's final evolution to be Fire/Fighting so I can feed on everybody's tears. <3

Emboar getting so much hatred just because of his type. The only suggestion I ever see people put out there for what combination he should have been is Fire/Ground and Camerupt -- a fellow slow, frail Fire/Ground-type -- isn't exactly lighting up the world of competitive battling so meh. It's kind of like how some people think Empoleon should have been Water/Ice even though his actual typing is far, far better.

Camerupt isn't totally frail but it just has very common weaknesses. And it is slow but it's a camel it's not meant to be fast.

I and several other friends of mine demand this also, for the exact same reason.

70/70/75 has never been particularly sturdy but considering all of the offensive powerhouses in Generation V, yes, it's pretty damn frail. And Emboar, while he has much better HP, also has lower Defenses and lacks Solid Rock, so he really wouldn't be too much different from the NU-dwelling Camerupt if he had that typing.

Well, I don't hate Emboar only 'cos of its typing. I hate its design, its species (Mega Fire Pig: lol) and the fact that a pig is a fighter. I only like its movepool (that Head Smash was a good idea).

Hope Fennekin won't be fighting...
Oh well, I heard somewhere that the grass type one will be Dark (I hate his design), but I'm not sure if its true.
I'm kinda satisfied with Fennekin, because its the first starter I like since 4th Gen... (Gen5 being the worst)

I keep thinking that both Chespin (due to it's browness) and Froakie (due to being a toad/frog) will be part Ground type. I guess a second alternative for the two would be Normal (lolwat) or Dark for Chespin and Ice or Fighting for Froakie. As first stages, though, I'd assume they'll all be pure types.

As for Fennekin, I wouldn't mind its final form being Fire/Fighting (because I love both Blaziken AND Emboar), but I would certainly welcome an unusual typing such as Fire/Electric (I can sort of picture it evolving into a very fast thing). There's also this small thought in my head that says Fennekin's final evo will be a Fire/Ground type, due to Fennec Foxes inhabiting deserts.

@Frost I was going off of my previous experiences in dealing with Camerupt, although mainly what came to mind was Flannery's Camerupt and let's face it at that point in the game despite Camerupt's subpar stats it's going to give most pokemon not named Marshtomp trouble. I understand what you and whoever else brought up Camerupt were saying.

and I don't understand all the hate about Generation V starters. I understand Serperior and Samurott have their disadvantages and a 3rd Fire/Fighting final evo in a row is a bit repetitive but they weren't the worst Gen V had to offer and in certain ways they outclassed a few previous starters.

Believe it or not, Samurott can be used effctively. Train it very fast, teach it ice beam and givd it an expert belt, and grass types aren't a problem anymore. Build a team around it's weaknesses, and basically troll anyone who tries to get a type advantage.
Plus, Samurott's an official Master. Accept it.
That said, I would like to see a starter set with dual typings again, seeing how it was 10 years ago the first time there was a dual typed starter, and about 4 years ago where all of the starters ended up being dual typed.
But I don't want Fennec to be Fire/Psychic, because I will absolutely hate it.

I used Samurott in White. It's not bad. But what you say about Ice Beam isn't credible for the main story, since Ice Beam is obtained pretty late. However, you can still make it remember Megahorn.
Edit: The starters' types were just revealed. All of them are mono-type. Their evos might, of course, obtain other types.
