Hi. I'm assembling my final team right now, and I am trying to find out what moves I should use for Mismagius. I don't know what EVs are, they confuse me, so is it ok if I post the stats instead? It's only level 76 right now, but I'm going to do some serious training soon. So, here's my current mismagius:
@spell tag (I'll try to get a better item soon)
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Adamant, proud of its power
HP: 193, Attack: 136, Defense: 114, Sp. Atk: 158, Sp. Def: 168, Speed: 177
Moves:
Psybeam
Payback
Pain Split
Shadow Ball
All constructive criticism is appreciated, but please don't post anything like "Omg you use Mismagius haha noob111oneone!!eleven1113" as I am serious.

i think you should CONSIDER teaching it a sleep move. ( it can be a pain deciding moves... )

If I do, what move should I replace? I think Pain Split.

Well, this is an Adamant natured Mismagius. Which is not a good nature for a Mismagius because it increases the power of physical attacks and decreases the power of special attacks.
For a sleep move, I would get rid of Psybeam. But, Mismagius isn't extremely fast, so I wouldn't recommend a sleeping move.

Yeah, that's the problem. It's slow, and the adamant makes shadow ball weaker. However, I can't find another dusk stone, and my only other friend that I can trade with (I have no Wi-Fi on my DS) has Diamond. So, I guess I have to use that one vitamin that boosts Special Attack.

You should be able to get two. Did you already use both of them? One is in the Galactic Storage, while the other one is in Victory Road 1FL. You can also pick them up using a Pokemon with the Pickup ability. The higher the level of the pickupper, the better the chance, but it's still only a chance, so patience and diligence is required. I don't see how your friend having diamond being a problem. Mind clarifying that?
Is it that slow? I've always seen Salamence and Garchomp as being pretty fast, and Mismagius is faster than both of them. Everyone has their standards I suppose.
No, adamant nature has more influence upon that special attack stat than you think. We're talking about a whole 10% drop. Simply giving a vitamin won't help the loss, since vitamins give 10 EVs, so you're still restricted to 252 EVs in SpA (255, really, but the 3 extra evs'd be a waste).
What exactly do you plan to do with it? Sweeper? Perish Trapper? I've never handled a Mismagius before, but a Perish Trapper is tempting. If I were to get rid of a move, it'd be Psybeam. Are you making a wifi team, or an in-game team? In-game teams can pretty much be anything, and it'll still be fine.
But if you plan to use it online, here's a good place to get some ideas:

Yay Mismagius ^^
I really have to agree with the above posters and say re-breed for a better nature. (IE: modest)
This is the moveset I have on mine:
Modest @ Wise Glasses. Levitate
52HP 200DEF 155S.ATK 103SPEED
-Skill Swap
-Pain Spilt
-Shadow Ball
-Hidden Power (Fighting) 55-56 Base Power
I lucked out with HP fight. Ghost/Fight has no resistors. Thunderbolt is a good choice otherwise. Swill swap can really abuse and mess up certain pokes, though you can instead run a status move like T-wave, Perish song or will-o-wisp. (What sleep move does mismagius learn??)

Mismagius@ Leftovers/Life Orb
116 HP 140 SP ATK 252 SPEED
Timid
Calm Mind
Shadow Ball
HP Fighting
Taunt
Mismagius has a couple of things that makes it better than gengar, this set includes Calm Mind which is something that Gengar doesn't have.

For pokemon who use non-attacking moves like for example Roar

Yes, but letting opponents smack mismagius's 60 base HP and DEF while calm minding would be worse than letting them roar missy out for the moment. Most Roar/wirlwind users are physical as well. I'd say a move like Will-o-wisp, which weakens the opponents ATK would be better to create a situation to calm mind. (At least once the roarer is gone)

Ok, I think I'll try this:
Mismagius @(Some item, I'll decided later)
Modest
-Pain Split
-Will-o-wisp
-Shadow Ball
-Payback
How's that?

If you want to use a dark move, go with dark pulse. It'll benefit from the +S.atk nature.

Technically Payback would do more damage, as long as Mismagius is slower. Idk, how slow is Mismagius compared to the majority of other Pokemon? Being faster than Salamence and Garchomp is an indicator...I guess. I've always seen 100 base speed Pokemon as being pretty darn fast, so maybe Dark Pulse is better?

I've used Mismagius in competitive play before...it works quite well, something like a Gengar, except slower and able to tank more in the special region. I used this:
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 Spd & Sp. Atk, 4 Def
Item: Life Orb/Expert Belt
Moves:
~Destiny Bond
~Shadow Ball
~Psychic/WoW
~Thunderbolt/Energy Ball
I don't think Mismagius can learn any Sleep move...weird for a Ghost Pokemon like it. Anyway, an Adamant nature Mismagius is a no can do. You need the Special Attack and the Speed. Do read up the Natures, EVs and DVs guides before you start training other Pokemon. You'll have to breed Mismagius for Destiny Bond. But it's very worth it, not all who can learn the move are able to pull it off well. Mismagius has the Speed to do so most of the time, unless it's up against a Weavile or an Infernape etc.
Edit: Oops looks like I copied and pasted too much from my Froslass set. Why did they make Misdreavus unable to learn Ice Beam anyway...It could in the GSC versions. Since Ice Beam's out, I guess Psychic can take its place.

Well then, how's this?
@shell bell (I don't have leftovers yet, and I on't know what the life orb is, I'll check later)
Modest
Sp. Attack and Speed 255
-Shadow Ball
-Destiny Bond
-Will-o-wisp
-Dark Pulse

It looks good, esp. the speed w/ destiny bond. I'd recommend T-bolt over Dark pulse since Ghost and dark share many of the same advantages.

I'm shocked no one mentioned the Perish Trapper...that thing takes down walls and tanks like no other...cressilia, blissey, skarmory, snorlax, bronzong etc. and it can take out a few sweepers as well...
Mismagius@Leftovers
Bold
252 HP 200 Defense 52 Special Defense 6 Speed
Mean Look
Perish Song
Protect/Sub
Taunt/Pain Split
With taunt, you can stop roar/whirlind..... Perish song, then protect twice or Sub up...Pain Split works very well as a recovery move against walls because walls always have a high amount of HP...one thing about switching out though is GOOD prediction...
here is a great sitauation i was in regarding prediction..i perish trapped this guys Blissey...i knew he had ice beam and Thunder wave...the perish count was about to be up and i had to switch in rhyperior to take the thunderwave, or infernape to take the ice beam.....Thunderwave will ruin infernape, and ice beam woulda taken alot out of rhyperior to the point where it would be almost useless...but overall you'll be put into situations like that, where you need good prediction when you need to switch out with the perish trapper....O and also..you can beat a choice band pursuiting weavile with this set with MAX HP...a weavile comes in on your mean look, then protect to scout if it has pursuit or night slash, then use perish song, and pursuit will not OHKO Mismagius if she stays in...then protect twice, your mismagius is unfortunately gone, but it woulda happened if you traded out anyways...but you took it down with you at least...that's just a lil somethin else added...

Well, I thought about that, and I decided that I didn't want to have a perish trapper. Perish Trappers are cheap, and I don't want to be cheap. This isn't worth cheapness.
So, I had to hatch a total of 17 Misdreabus, and I have a few leftover eggs sitting in the PC, so I'll be trading out Misdreavus once my DS can connect to Wi-Fi. I just want to get rid of them, and for me, it doesn't feel like I got rid of them if I release them, so this way I can get some Diamond Exclusive pokemon.

Mismagius works better as a sweeper and Destiny Bonder than a Perish Trapper. Perish trappers usually fail too. Max out Mismagius potential, not Minimise it.

Sorry for the necro, but I figured it would be better then making a new topic >.>
Currently I've been working on my Mismagius and have gotten stuck with what item to use....
Mismagius
Calm @ ??????????. Levitate
252 HP, 40 DEF, 52 S.ATK, 164 S.DEF
-Protect
-Will-O-Wisp
-Icy Wind
-Thunderbolt
zomg no skill swap D:
Bulky set to sponge special moves, and burn makes her take physical attacks better.
WoW for burning, protect for scouting and racking up burn's damage. Icy wind for speed drops on faster pokes or if I predict a "free" switch when they expect me to protect it sets them ready for a WoW. and T-bolt for boltbeam.
Items I'm Stuck between:
Quick Claw: relying off luck to catch some fast sweepers off guard.
Wide Lens: Makes WoW more accurate and Icy wind 100%+ acc (will wide lends make a 2nd protect more accurate? or is that fixed?)
Lum Berry: to switch in on status
Colbor Berry: to wow against darks and worry less about sucker punch.
Leftovers, expert belt, and focus sash are all being used by other pokes.
